Lake County Sheriff's Office Explorer Post #2066 Our explorers strive to learn more about law enforcement and assist the citizens of Lake County. What's our mission? What do we do?

To teach young men and women ages 14 to 21 about the law enforcement profession while serving the citizens of Lake County. We assist the citizens of Lake County by attending various community events where we help the community by directing traffic and/or assisting the Sheriff's Office safe and controlled environment. Explorers are taught at bi-weekly meetings about law enforcement by law enforceme

nt officers, learning the basics of the field. Explorers then have the opportunity to test their knowledge and skills by competing against other explorer posts at state and national competitions.

This week, our Explorers assisted Saint Basil of Ostrog Serbian Orthodox Church with their annual Taste of Serbia event. 🇷🇸

Our Explorers helped with traffic control, directing vehicles and pedestrians, and maintaining a safe and organized environment throughout the event.

Community service is an important part of the Explorer program, and we are proud of our Explorers for representing the Lake County Sheriff’s Office while giving back to our community.

The Explorers wrapped up the conference with scenarios on Wednesday, bringing an incredible week to a close. 🚔
They concluded on Thursday with an awards ceremony and formal brunch sponsored by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board (ILETSB). 🏆
It was an honor to serve alongside so many dedicated Explorers from across the state throughout the week.
Thank you to everyone who participated in this year’s conference, and congratulations on all the hard work, dedication, and achievements. The professionalism, teamwork, and commitment displayed by each participant truly made this event a success. 💪
A special thank you to the Illinois Law Enforcement Explorer Association and the WIU Law Enforcement and Justice Administration for hosting a well-organized and impactful conference at Western Illinois University. 👏

This week, our Explorers are competing downstate at the 2026 Illinois Law Enforcement Explorer Association State Summer Competition. 🚔🇺🇸
They kicked off the week Monday night with rapid deployment training, focusing on teamwork, communication, and responding under pressure. 🛡️🚪
Day two was packed with high-intensity scenarios including TEMS (officer down) 🚑, burglary in progress 🏠, domestics ⚖️, felony traffic stops 🚓, and DUI/SFST arrests 🚦. Each event challenged our Explorers to think critically, act professionally, and perform at a high level. 🎯💪
These scenarios are more than just competition—they are building the foundation for the next generation of law enforcement leaders. We are proud of the hard work, dedication, and professionalism being shown by every member of the post. 👮‍♂️🔥
They wrapped up the day with a post-wide volleyball game 🏐—a great way to build camaraderie and keep morale high after a demanding day.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office Explorer Post 2066 extends its sincere congratulations to Lt. Balmes on her retirement from the Lake County IL Sheriff's Office. Her career reflects a steadfast commitment to duty, professionalism, and service to the community. Her leadership and dedication have made a lasting impact on all who had the privilege to serve alongside her. 👮‍♀️
We thank Lt. Balmes for her honorable service and wish her continued health, happiness, and success in retirement. As of July 13, 2026, she is officially 10-42 for the final time. 🚔🇺🇸

Today marks an incredible milestone as we celebrate 250 years of the United States and honor all those who have served in so many ways—past and present 💙🫡. Wishing everyone a safe and meaningful holiday as we reflect on the freedoms we enjoy ❤️🤍💙✨
