Shannon was finally able to go through some of the old newspaper articles that were given to her the day of the 200th birthday event and this really great special edition of the Gwinnett Daily News was included.

Then mayor, Jack Sawyer, was able to get the city of Lilburn designated as an official Bicentennial Community, in part because of the heritage project of the restoration of the Wynne-Russell house.

The whole edition was a great read about the original McDaniel settlement from the 1820s that became incorporated as Lilburn in 1910.

We had a most awesome day at the house, introducing the newest Wynne descendant, Benson, to his heritage!!! He will be 3 weeks old tomorrow and is the 5th great grandson of Thomas and Mary Wynne and is SO adorable.

Benson and his mom and dad, Randy and Addison, spent the day touring the house and exchanging stories and family history information with Shannon. The sheer magnitude of this legacy is what fuels the preservation of this great 200 year old home! We certainly hope the next time they are in Georgia, they will visit again.

For those keeping track of the family line for this family, it runs like this:
Thomas Wynne
William Wynne
Charles Wynne
Ralph Wynne
Lucien Wynne
David Wynne
Randall Wynne
Benson Wynne

It was a great open house/tour day at the house! In preparation of Flag Day tomorrow, we were honored to be joined by Boy Scout Troop 552 who gave demonstrations on flag raising and folding!!!

They also gave us a trivia session involving several different sets of flag facts and debunked some myths!! It was awesome to be able to share the house/family history with these gentlemen, and I know all of us learned at least one thing about flags that we did not know 🇺🇸

Good Morning Lilburn. Thank you for supporting the Wynne Russell House on Saturday. It was an amazing turn out and more events coming soon.
So many bought raffle tickets. A friend in Norcross donated 4 quilts to the house. We decided to raffle one. All funds will go toward uncovering the existing walkway to the house. If you attended it was lined with the chairs. The winning ticket is posted and she is local and picked up the quilt before we left the grounds. Congratulations and especially the support of all. The other picture is Claire Dyes, in blue, pulling the winning ticket. She is the friend to all that donated this priceless gift. Thank you Lilburn and friends from all over.

Our sincerest thanks to everyone that came out today for our bicentennial bash for the house! We appreciate being able to share our love of the house and the families that made it their home for the decades that spanned some of the greatest events of importance in America's history.

The amount of family descendants that came blew us away!! Emil Powell took a lot of photos and has posted some them here, so please check them out!!

For a more intimate history tour, we will resume our monthly open house on June 13. One tour that starts at 10am and then again on the 2nd Saturday of July, August and September, so mark your calendars!
