Wednesday night we had the privilege of honoring Chief Melvin Yow. Melvin is a charter member of Summerville Bunnlevel Fire & Rescue and has dedicated over 60 years of service to our department and community. Serving as Chief for 37 years, he has mentored, guided, and helped shape our department into what it is today.

Last night, he was presented with the Service Excellence Award from the North Carolina State Fire Marshal’s Office, an honor that is truly well deserved. Over the past 60+ years, Melvin has given countless hours of selfless service to helping others.

Because of Melvin, and so many others like him, we have the opportunity to continue serving our community today. For that, we are forever grateful.

With great sadness, we share the passing of our dear friend and long-term board member, Leo McDonald. Mr. Leo served Summerville and Summerville Bunnlevel for over 50 years with incredible dedication. Most of those years he served as Board Chairman. Our thoughts are with the family during this difficult time. We will share more information as we have it.
