🚫🔥Please be aware that a burn ban was issued March 28, 2026 at 6:00 until further notice by both the NC Forest Service and the Harnett County Fire Marshalls office. The Harnett County burn ban applies to all property within 100 feet of a residence. The NC Forest Service burn ban applies to all property more than 100 feet from any residence. No new burning permits will be issued and all previously issued permits are void. Anyone violating the burn ban faces a $100 fine plus $183 court costs. Any person responsible for setting a fire may be liable for any expenses related to extinguishing the fire. Please delay all open air burning until bans have been canceled.

Due to increased wildfire risk, the N.C. Forest Service has issued a ban on all open burning and has canceled all burning permits statewide effective 6 p.m. Saturday, March 28 until further notice.

Under North Carolina law, the ban prohibits all open burning in the affected counties, regardless of whether a permit was previously issued. The issuance of any new permits has also been suspended until the ban is lifted. Anyone violating the burn ban faces a $100 fine plus $183 court costs. Any person responsible for setting a fire may be liable for any expenses related to extinguishing the fire.

The burn ban does not apply to fires started within 100 feet of an occupied dwelling. The local fire marshal has authority to issue a burn ban within those 100 feet.

🌾✨ Women in Agriculture – February 24, 2026 ✨🌾

What an incredible evening February 24th at our first Harnett Women in Agriculture meeting! We had a wonderful turnout at the Harnett County Agriculture Center and kicked things off with a delicious meal before diving into an evening full of learning and connection.

We heard valuable presentations from Harnett County Agriculture Center agencies including:
🌱 Soil & Water Conservation
🌾 Cooperative Extension
🚜 Farm Service Agency
🌲 NC Forest Service

The ladies were excited to network, share experiences, and learn about new resources and skills to strengthen their farming operations. The conversations were thoughtful, encouraging, and full of energy — exactly what Women in Agriculture is all about!

Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to such a meaningful evening. We’re already looking forward to the next gathering! 💚

If you have ideas for upcoming meeting topics or would like to be on our Women in Agriculture email list please let us know by dropping a note in the comments or reach out to our office.

Don't miss this opportunity to make life changing memories and career guidance for students interested in agriculture and natural resources! RCW applications are due to the Harnett SWCD office by March 31st.

Applications are NOW OPEN for the 2026 RESOURCE CONSERVATION WORKSHOP!

Rising 10-12th graders with an interest in natural resources and agriculture are encouraged to apply. The Harnett Soil and Water Conservation District Board will review submitted applications and select students to sponsor from within Harnett County. Sponsorship covers registration, meals, and housing!

The Resource Conservation Workshop (RCW) is a week long event coordinated by the NC Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts and has an over 50 year history of helping students to gain firsthand knowledge of natural resource based careers and connects them with caring professionals in multiple natural resource fields of study. Students from all throughout NC will be housed on the campus of NCSU in Raleigh and venture out for field studies, and behind the scenes tours of agriculture and conservation venues. Students will meet and receive guidance from natural resource professionals, visit sites to see real world examples of modern day natural resources management, connect with other students who have common interests, familiarize themselves with multiple aspects of NCSU, have opportunities to win cash awards, scholarship money, and so much more.
