Today, Boone Trail crews responded to a fast moving field fire that started while a farmer was mowing hay for baling. During operations, the mower blades struck a rock, creating a spark. With the extremely dry conditions and steady winds, that spark quickly turned into a rapidly spreading fire.
In total, approximately 10.5 acres were burned. Thankfully, there was no damage to any structures and no injuries to civilians or responding personnel.
As always, we’d like to thank Summerville Bunnlevel Fire and Rescue, Lillington Fire Department, Cape Fear Rural Fire Department, and the N.C. Forest Service for their assistance. And to the farmers who helped plow lines around the fields to assist with containment and spray hot spots with their water truck.
We’d also like to extend a special thank you to Parker’s Pizza for donating pizza and to the staff at Seminole Mart for providing Gatorade to help keep our crews fueled and hydrated during the incident.
We also want to recognize a few off duty firefighters from other departments who stopped, while passing by, to lend a hand with hose movement and securing a hydrant. Your help did not go unnoticed.
We are proud to serve this community and are incredibly grateful for the continued support.
