In animal shelters, spring and summer is known as Kitten Season. During this time of year unfixed female cats are more likely to deliver their kittens, resulting in a surplus of tiny, fragile lives in need of one on one care. This makes it more important than ever to consider volunteering your time or supplies to these already overworked facilities. For those of us unfamiliar with kitten care, Hannah Rene Shaw, better known by her online moniker “The Kitten Lady”, has a book to help you get started: https://shorturl.at/YfI9z

“Multiple sclerosis, also known as MS, is a disease in which the immune system attacks the protective sheath that covers nerve fibers, known as myelin. This causes breakdown of that sheath and interrupts communication between the brain and the rest of the body. It can cause numbness, weakness, trouble walking, vision changes and, eventually, permanent damage to the nerve fibers.”

“Sherlock Holmes is a fictional detective created by British author Arthur Conan Doyle. Referring to himself as a "consulting detective" in his stories, Holmes is known for his proficiency with observation, deduction, forensic science and logical reasoning that borders on the fantastic, which he employs when investigating cases for a wide variety of clients, including Scotland Yard. Since his inception, Sherlock has been invented countless times, from a misanthropic medical doctor to an anthropomorphic mouse. In fact, the Guinness World Records lists him as the most frequently portrayed human literary character in film and television history.”

“As ancient as dinosaurs, today’s turtles are the products of an evolutionary line that precedes mammals and birds. They are as wildly diverse as the habitats they call home; from sun-dappled forest floors to desert-cut canyons. They are ecosystem engineers essential to our soils, waters, and flora. But around the world, turtles are in trouble. More than half of the 476 living types of freshwater turtles, tortoises, sea turtles, and terrapins are threatened with extinction.”

“Around 70% of the planet’s surface is covered by oceans. In fact, the oceans hold about 96.5% of all water on Earth. The largest is the Pacific Ocean, which covers around 30% of the Earth’s surface and includes the Mariana Trench, which is the deepest known point on earth at 11km. The longest mountain range in the world is also found underwater. Stretching over 56,000km, the Mid-Oceanic Ridge is a mountain chain that runs along the centre of the ocean basins. About 70% of the oxygen we breathe is produced by the oceans and they support the largest living structure; the Great Barrier Reef. Measuring around 2,600km, it can even be seen from the Moon! And despite all these incredible discoveries, we have only explored about 5% of the world’s oceans.”
