The Bath Township Board of Zoning Appeals and Zoning Commission will hold a joint study session on Wednesday June 3, 2026 at 6:00 pm in the Bath Township Boardroom located at 2280 Ada Road., Lima, Ohio to discuss amendments to the Bath Township Zoning Resolution.

Have you noticed the new RED fire hydrants appearing around the area?

Why RED?

The red fire hydrants are self drainers. This refers to the hydrant’s dry barrel (frostproof) design. In a self-draining (dry barrel) hydrant, the water is kept below the frost line in winter so it won’t freeze. After use, the hydrant automatically drains to prevent freezing damage .

State Route 309 between Mumaugh Road and the Hardin County line is restricted to alternating one way through the work zone Monday - Wednesday, June 1-3, for a chip seal resurfacing project. If possible, please use an alternate route to reduce delays.

Bath Township Fire Department personnel will be conducting spring fire hydrant maintenance and flushing on all township hydrants beginning Tuesday, May 26, 2026. The testing will last about four to six weeks.

Residents may notice discoloration of water when the flushing takes place in their neighborhood. If you experience a discoloration of water, turn on your plumbing fixtures until the water runs clear. It is best to run an outdoor fixture, or a cold-water tap in a bathtub first until the water runs clear and then run water from other fixtures.

The fire department realizes that hydrant flushing may cause some inconvenience, however, the flushing program is necessary to maintain a good water supply for firefighting and to ensure that the hydrants are in good working order. The community’s cooperation with the annual fire hydrant flushing program is appreciated.
