This weekend, Limon Ambulance Service pauses to remember and honor the brave men and women of the United States Armed Forces who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.

Memorial Day is more than the start of summer—it is a time to reflect on the courage, selflessness, and dedication of those who gave everything to protect the freedoms we enjoy every day.

As emergency responders, we understand the meaning of service, sacrifice, and answering the call when others are in need. Today, we stand in gratitude for those who answered the call for our nation and never came home.

From all of us at Limon Ambulance Service, we remember the fallen, honor their legacy, and extend our heartfelt gratitude to the families who carry their memory forward.

🚑 As EMS Week comes to a close, we wanted to share something that means a great deal to all of us at Limon Ambulance Service.

This week, EMSAC highlighted the work being done through the developing High Plains Ambulance Authority (HPAA) — a collaborative effort between Limon Ambulance Service, Agate Fire Protection District, and Lincoln Health aimed at strengthening rural EMS for the future.

For years, rural EMS agencies have faced increasing challenges: staffing shortages, rising costs, provider burnout, long response times, and uncertainty about sustainability. Instead of accepting those challenges as the “new normal,” our agencies chose to come together and build something different.

The High Plains Ambulance Authority represents a vision for what rural EMS can be:
✅ Fair pay for EMS professionals
✅ Safe staffing levels
✅ Leadership that listens and takes action
✅ Opportunities for growth and advancement
✅ Stronger regional partnerships
✅ Faster response times and better patient care

What started as a conversation about survival has grown into a model of collaboration that is already making a difference. Shared staffing, automatic aid, resource coordination, joint purchasing, and advanced life support coverage across our region are helping ensure our communities continue to receive high-quality emergency care when they need it most.

This recognition is not about one person or one agency — it’s about every EMT, paramedic, nurse, dispatcher, firefighter, volunteer, hospital partner, and leader who believes rural EMS deserves to survive and thrive.

As EMS Week ends, we want to thank our incredible Limon Ambulance Service crews. Your dedication, compassion, sacrifice, and resilience are what make efforts like this possible. You are the reason progress happens.

The work isn’t done — but the future of rural EMS in Eastern Colorado is looking brighter than ever. 💙

What a great program! Working along side Agate Fire Protection District we will no doubt see this in action! Way to go Elbert County!

On Wednesday 13th, Representatives from Life Med Safety Medical Equipment presented to the Elbert County Sheriff’s Office (ECSO) 2- Life Pack 12 defibrillators/ heart monitor. These will be assigned to two deputies with enhanced lifesaving skills. We would like to thank Tyler Keys and Tyler Fuqua for the donation.

Sheriff Tim Norton will soon be launching a new Deputy/ Paramedic program to bring enhanced life saving skills to rural residents of Elbert County. Working alongside our Fire Departments (7) throughout the county, we will add two deputies that have state and federal paramedic certifications, ready to respond to medical emergencies all over the county. They are deputy sheriffs first but have advanced lifesaving skills as well. They will be working afternoon shifts 7 days a week.

Their vehicles will be equipped with the two defibrillators/ heart monitors units mentioned above, oxygen, plus a large variety of tools, equipment and drugs to enhance the chance of survival for patients that they respond to assist.

We will be launching the new program in June. ECSO will be one of the only agencies to offer this service!

This week, May 17–23, we proudly celebrate EMS Week — a time to recognize the dedicated EMTs, Paramedics, dispatchers, and all emergency medical professionals who answer the call day and night to serve our community.

At Limon Ambulance Service, our crews are there for life’s unexpected moments — whether it’s a serious emergency on I-70, a medical call in town, mutual aid for our neighbors, or simply being there when someone needs help most.

EMS is more than lights and sirens — it’s compassion, skill, teamwork, and commitment to caring for others on what may be their worst day.

To our incredible LAS team: thank you for your long hours, missed holidays, sleepless nights, and unwavering dedication to the communities we serve. Your hard work does not go unnoticed. 💙

Today, Limon Ambulance Service was honored to greet the incredible riders of Run For The Wall as they made their way into town along Highway 24.

This powerful ride is more than just motorcycles on the road—it’s a moving tribute honoring our veterans, active military, POW/MIA, and those who have sacrificed for our freedom. ❤️🤍💙

To all the riders passing through Limon: thank you for your service, your sacrifice, and for keeping this meaningful tradition alive. It was a privilege for our crew to stand roadside and welcome you to our community!

Limon Ambulance Service is excited to announce the upcoming High Plains Ambulance Authority AEMT Class beginning September 14th!

This 14-week course will be held in Limon every Monday, Tuesday, and Friday from 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM and is designed for EMTs looking to advance their skills and provide a higher level of patient care in rural communities.

🚑 Did You Know? 🤝

The proposed Ambulance Authority isn’t about creating a brand-new EMS system or “reinventing the wheel.” In fact, it’s the exact opposite!

For decades, Limon Ambulance Service, Agate Fire, and Lincoln Health have all worked together to provide emergency medical care across eastern Lincoln County. The Ambulance Authority simply builds on that teamwork by sharing resources, personnel, equipment, and services that already exist.

What does that mean for our communities?

✅ Better coordination between agencies
✅ Stronger EMS coverage across the county
✅ Shared staffing and equipment
✅ Less duplication of costs
✅ More efficient use of taxpayer dollars

At the end of the day, this is about keeping reliable EMS services in our communities while working smarter together for the future. 🚑
