Not only do women make up the majority of SDF's staff—our organization is also woman-founded! SDF's founder is Wilma Melville, a former schoolteacher and FEMA-Certified Canine Search Specialist who, while deployed, saw firsthand the need for more highly trained teams in our nation's disaster response network. Determined to do something about it, she founded the National Disaster Search Dog Foundation, and the rest is history. Since then, SDF-trained teams have deployed on 293 missions, and our roster of 97 canine disaster search teams continues to grow year after year, thanks to the vision and determination of one incredible woman. ❤️
