Alexis and Mandi are *rocking* their presentation at the National Community Action Conference right now! 👏 👏
They’ve done a great job providing practical steps for establishing or growing a program model that supports individuals in removing financial barriers and building wealth 📈💰
Equally valuable have been the great questions and robust discussion within the session!
So proud of the leaders on our team who are innovating, tailoring services based on participant input, and demonstrating why the Community Action approach works 💙

Alexis, Michelle, Lisa, Heather, and Mandi on our team are attending Community Action Partnership National Office’s annual convention in St. Louis this week. You gotta love when you can step out during a break and quickly visit a National Park!

The learning and networking is always great, though we are especially excited for Alexis and Mandi’s session — “Navigating Financial Lives: Learn How Free to Save Moves Individuals and Families Beyond Survival” — tomorrow 🤩

Hunger affects more neighbors in Lincoln than many people realize. An estimated 2,767 people came through The Gathering Place’s doors last year, a 27% increase in only two years.

• 76% currently have housing
• 72% live within one mile of our current location
• 25% have at least one child in their household

Food insecurity can touch any household, and we believe every neighbor deserves a place to turn when groceries do not stretch far enough.

Lisa Janssen, Gathering Place Administrator, shares how they keep the doors open, the tables ready, and warm meals within reach.

The need for a warm meal in Lincoln is real, and it continues to grow.

In 2025, The Gathering Place served 55,330 meals, a 58% increase from five years earlier and a 119% increase from 2016, when 25,299 meals were served.

These numbers reflect neighbors facing difficult choices, families stretching limited budgets, and people searching for a welcoming place at the end of the day.

Your contribution, no matter the size, can make a difference.

For decades, thousands of meals have come out of our 120-square-foot kitchen, many of them served by volunteers who show up night after night to welcome our guests with care.

At 919 S. 12th Street, a larger kitchen will give our volunteers more room to prepare and serve nightly meals. Twice the space will allow us to welcome more guests, while dedicated rooms will give neighbors a place to connect with resources that can support greater stability.

This new space is being built with the Lincoln community behind it. Because you continue to give, volunteer, and believe in this work, more people will find a meal, a warm welcome, and support when they walk through our doors.

A promise made more than 40 years ago continues today.

When the Gathering Place first opened its doors, the goal was simple: make sure every neighbor has a place to gather, connect, and enjoy a meal.

Yesterday, we celebrated the next chapter of that promise.💟

Thank you to everyone who joined us for yesterday's groundbreaking, and for helping us build a bigger table for our community.
