Street Closure – Kickapoo Street & Latham Place/Delavan

Beginning at 6am on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, Kickapoo Street will be closed just south of Latham Place/Delavan Streets so that Illinois American Water can install a water line. The road will reopen once their work is completed.

New South College Street Extension to Open

Beginning, at 9:00 am Wednesday, October 4, 2023, the new College Street extension, between West Kickapoo Street and South State Street, will open to traffic and South State St will permanently close just south of West Kickapoo Street. The South College Street /West Kickapoo Street intersection will become a four way stop.

In the map below, the green line is the new College Street extension, the red line is the portion of South State Street that will permanently close.

Road Closure - Tuesday Morning October 3, 2023

Beginning, at 7:00 am Tuesday, October 3, 2023, South College Street will be closed at the viaduct near 1st Street and North Street. This closure is to allow Union Pacific Railroad crews to do maintenance to the tracks overhead and avoid any hazards of falling material striking pedestrians or vehicles. The street will open once work is completed.

Road Closures beginning Sunday, October 1, 2023

Beginning at 6:00am Sunday, October 1, 2023, 5th Street Rd., west of Lincoln Pkwy, will be closed at the railroad crossing. At the same time, Stringer Ave will also be closed at the railroad crossing near 1st Street. These closures are to allow Union Pacific Railroad crews to make repairs to the crossings. The work is projected to be completed by Wednesday, October 4, 2023, by 12:00 pm.

Following these two closures, crews will begin work on the crossings at South Postville Dr. and South State. These two streets will close at 12:00 pm on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, and will reopen Saturday, October 7, 2023, at 12:00pm.

Wyatt Ave Street Closure

Thursday, September 14, 2023, the southbound lane of Wyatt Ave will be closed from South Kickapoo Street to South Ladue Street to allow students and parents to whitewash and decorate the boulevards for Homecoming weekend. There will be a partial closure of Wyatt Ave between Ladue and Railer Way, but traffic will be allowed. Southbound Wyatt Ave traffic should use Decatur Street to get to Railer Way and Primm Rd.

Street Closures will last from 4:30pm - 7:30pm.

Beginning on the morning of Wednesday 9/13/23 utility work will begin. The road will be closed starting Wednesday morning at 7 AM, it is expected to be open by Wednesday afternoon. If you normally travel through this intersection please choose an alternate route during this project.

South College & West Kickapoo Intersection Closure

Beginning Monday, August 14, 2023, the intersection at South College Street and West Kickapoo St will be closed so contractors working on the Illinois Department of Juvenile Justice Center Project can rebuild the intersection. Lincoln Sewer Department Staff will also be completing drainage improvements while the intersection is closed. This closure is expected to last through Thursday afternoon, the intersection will reopen once the work is completed.

Fifth Street Sidewalk Project

Beginning Monday July 31, 2023, Lincoln Street Department Staff will start removal and replacement of sidewalk on the northside of Fifth Street at the 100 & 300 blocks. During these operations there will be intermittent lane closures and traffic delays. Traffic will be controlled by flaggers, and it is vital to the safety of workers and motorists that everyone follow the direction of traffic control signs and personnel and if possible, use another route while work is taking place. This will be a lengthy project that will proceed west to include the 500 & 600 blocks also.
