Mid-America Transportation Center (MATC) Region 7's University Transportation Center housed at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln S.

In 2006, and again in 2011, the Mid-America Transportation Center won the U. Department of Transportation Research and Innovative Technology Administration’s competition for the Region VII University Transportation Center—the region that includes Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas and Missouri. The consortium partners consist of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, the University of Iowa, the University of Kan

sas, Kansas State University, Lincoln University, and the Missouri University of Science and Technology. Iowa State University and the University of Missouri joined the Center in 2012. The University of Nebraska-Lincoln serves as the lead institution of the consortium and MATC has its headquarters on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus.

On the final day of the STEM Academy, students visited University of Nebraska-Lincoln Libraries' Love Library where they learned how to map the plants in UNL's Indigenous Garden with Dr. Gabriel Bruguier.

Students spent day 4 of the STEM Academy exploring Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium, experiencing science in a unique, real-world setting. From ecosystems to animal habitats, the visit highlighted how STEM is applied across conservation and environmental systems.

The day concluded with a formal dinner with a keynote address from Dr. Jennifer Nelson, Vice Chancellor for Research and Innovation and an opportunity to explore University of Nebraska State Museum - Morrill Hall!

Day 3 of the STEM Academy focused on real-world learning as students visited the Spring Creek Prairie Audubon Center to study ecosystems, biodiversity, and water quality.

They later traveled to Nebraska Innovation Campus, where they toured the facilities, explored robotics, built wind turbines, and practiced welding in a simulator.

Students explored engineering in action on Day 2 through hands-on lab experiences in materials, environmental systems, and structural engineering in the University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Engineering Civil & Environmental Engineering Department!

The day also included a tour of Kiewit Hall and an interactive session on drones and AI, giving students valuable insight into real-world transportation technologies.

The MATC 2026 STEM Academy wrapped up this week! The Academy successfully kicked off at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, welcoming 36 high school students from across the state for a week of immersive STEM learning.

Students started the week with a rocket engineering activity led by UNL Engineering Ambassadors and a welcome from Dr. Gabriel Bruguier.

Commercial Drivers Needed - Paid Study Opportunity

The Nebraska Transportation Center is seeking Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) drivers to participate in a research study on electronic logging devices.

Details:
• Must have a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
• 30-minute simulator session in a UNL Transportation Lab
• June 15–30, 2026
• $100 gift card for participation
