I want to take this opportunity to especially give a shout out to Logan County’s Dispatchers. They were amazing.

On this the final weekday of EMS week. We want to take a moment to put a spotlight on our CEO and Paramedic Crystal Bale.

Crystal has worked her way up in the organization from the streets, to manager, onto the CEO position.

No matter what time it is, day or night. She’s got our back, from a bad call and need to vent to getting on a truck and getting her hands dirty. We couldn’t do it without her!

Our organization would not be the same without this woman. She puts in countless hours, goes over and above every day. We can’t thank her enough for how much she has done for each and everyone of us and this organization.

Because of that we salute you!

🚑 Happy EMS week… 🚑

EMS in America can be traced back to the Civil War era. All military personnel had to be examined by medical officers to qualify for duty. Also, ambulances were assigned based on the size of the regiment. Each ambulance team was trained in patient care to better take care of the soldiers.

For EMS week this year we want to take a minute to recognize the dedication of our EMS personnel here at Logan County Paramedic Association would not be able to exist without our personnel and their dedication!

Here is what it takes to become an EMT so that you can respond on the ambulance:

•To get your EMT license you will need 120 hrs minimum of classroom time and clinicals prior to taking the state test.

•To become a Paramedic you will need your EMT license plus go through an accredited program which has a minimum of 560 hrs of classroom time and at least 525 hrs of clinical time. Clinical time is time spent on the ambulance and in the hospital.

All of this is done without being paid! We really appreciate all of our personnel who have dedicated themselves to serving the community through EMS! We also appreciate the support we receive from our community!!

A big shout out and Thank you to the amazing dispatcher we have right here in Logan County.

A 911 dispatcher is many things. From answering calls when people are most in need, to coordinating strategies, completing inquiries, providing instructions, and sending help when situations are at their most critical, an emergency dispatcher is a lifeline between people in need and necessary emergency services.

You truly are the first to respond and we owe a great deal of thanks and a extra mic click to our wonderful dispatcher.

Recently we've had several of our colleagues from Lincoln Memorial Hospital complete their ECRN ride time with us. During their time, they respond to 911 calls with our crews and get the chance to experience pre-hospital emergency medicine. They also get to experience working with all our local Fire Departments and Police who often respond to emergency calls with us. A big THANK YOU to Carrie Lynch for bringing the crew all these goodies!

Please keep and eye on the weather and stay safe.

The latest from SPC is that we will see an upgrade to a tornado driven HIGH RISK (Level 5 Threat) west of the Illinois River in their 11:30 update. This will be the first High Risk issued for parts of Central Illinois since November 2013.

The risk of strong, long tracked tornadoes in Central Illinois continues to increase ahead of multiple rounds of storms that will be heading our way. For more information on storm timing and impacts please read the story below.

⚠️ SEVERE WEATHER EXPECTED THIS AFTERNOON-EVENING-LATE NIGHT⚠️

Widespread severe weather including damaging winds, hail, and potential tornadoes are expected this afternoon through late night. NOW is the time to prepare.

➡️ Make sure your ENTIRE family knows where to go if a Tornado Warning is issued.
➡️ Consider cancelling evening plans, or be sure you have a shelter nearby if you are out. Cars are not shelters from tornadoes!
➡️ Have MULTIPLE ways to receive weather alerts, even when sleeping.
➡️ Check, recheck, and check your weather sources to know when sever weather is arriving.

Above all, be safe.
