On 6/25/25 at 12:12pm, Lincoln Rural along with automatic aid from Lincoln City, Atlanta, Hartsburg, Emden, New Holland, and Logan County Paramedics were dispatched for a report of a commercial structure fire in the 2200 block of 5th St. The facility was Lincoln Transload and Processing. First arriving units found smoke pushing from the top of the tower portion of the building as well as significant smoke inside the ground level and basement level. Entry crews found fire in the basement level which had also traveled through exhaust and transfer ducts to the upper levels. A first alarm was requested bringing Elkhart, Latham, and Middletown to the scene with additional water tankers. Access to the upper floors was made by Lincoln City utilizing their ladder truck and extinguishment was completed on the upper floors. Due to the extensive amount of duct work leading from the basement, a significant amount of time was spent ensuring all remaining fire and hot spots were extinguished. Sherman fire was requested to respond to cover the Lincoln Rural station to cover any other calls that may occur. With the size of the building and amount of smoke inside, a special request was made to the Springfield Fire Department to respond with the MABAS Division 48 mobile ventilation unit, which is a very large fan truck. All facility staff had evacuated and were uninjured. One firefighter was transported to Lincoln Hospital with heat exhaustion. Logan County EMA responded with a cooling trailer as well as water for rehab purposes. Lincoln PD as well as Logan County Sheriffs Department provided traffic control on 5th St for inbound and outbound water tankers. We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to all assisting agencies who spent over 6 hours in the heat to get the fire extinguished.

We have had a lot of people asking what we are doing in the back lot at the firehouse, so we wanted to update everyone. We are in process of building a training tower!

This training tower will be made up of 6 shipping containers and the inside will simulate the layout of a house that will include a kitchen, dinning room, 3 bedrooms (including an infant room with crib), 2 bathrooms, a roof simulator to practice vertical ventilation, and a confined space maze. It is essential that our personnel be trained to a certain level. This will allow us to make sure we can provide the citizens we cover, the best possible trained personnel!

We would like to let everyone know that this project is being funded with the foreign fire tax fund. The fire department has a board, called the 2% board. These members oversee the funds and it must be used for the betterment of firefighters. We have been saving our money for the last several years in the hopes of being able to do something like this. We also have a lot of members donating their time and knowledge to complete this project.

Below are some pictures of what the final product will look like as well as some progress photos. We want to thank all of our personnel that have taken the time to help so far with this large project, and a huge shoutout to Thomas Excavating & Concrete for donating his time and crew to get the first phase started!

We are deeply saddened by the unfortunate news of the passing of Kendall. Besides being a long tenured member and Captain for Warrensburg, he was also a Paramedic for Logan County Paramedic Association. His willingness to jump in and assist as well as to pass on his knowledge has been felt by many. We offer our deepest condolences to his family and friends. Please keep his family as well as his first responder family in your thoughts and prayers.

As the weather is getting nicer many individuals are doing controlled or prescribed burns. These burns will also include the yearly burns at Kickapoo Park. If you are going to do controlled burns please make sure to call in before, either to the fire department or Logan Dispatch so it may be logged. This helps keep resources from being sent out when not needed. It is also recommended to stay with your controlled burns as conditions can change and spread quickly.

Yesterday at 2:23 units were dispatched for a report of a semi on fire near the 125 mile marker south bound I-55. First arriving units found the tractor fully engulfed with fire also igniting the trailer. Due to the amount of fire and the wind, grass fires ignited on the west ditch near the truck, the median, and the east side of the interstate. Mutual aid was requested from Lincoln City FD with an engine, tankers from Atlanta and Elkhart along with a brush truck from Elkhart. Due to cargo in the semi, it took an extensive amount of time to fully extinguish. The towing company had to remove the contents of the trailer to finally get the last of the fire out. A big thank you to all of the assisting agencies.
