Nebraska Corn Board

The Nebraska Corn Board works to increase the value and sustainability of Nebraska corn. The Board elects a ninth “at-large” member.

The Nebraska Corn Board is a state funded agency funded through a ½-cent-per-bushel checkoff on all corn marketed in the state. The mission of the Nebraska Corn Board is to promote the value of corn by creating opportunities. Checkoff funds are invested in programs of market development, research, promotion and education. The Nebraska Corn Board is made up of nine farmer directors who serve three-

year terms. Eight members represent specific Nebraska districts and are appointed by the Governor of Nebraska.

In 2024, beef and pork exports accounted for 63.68 million bushels of Nebraska corn and contributed 14% of a bushel's value, about $0.59 per bushel. Strong export markets create additional value for Nebraska corn growers.

This July, Nebraska Corn and our Corn Congress Leadership Program participants from across Nebraska traveled to Washington, D.C., and joined nearly 300 farmer leaders from across the country for Corn Congress. During the trip, Corn Congress Leadership Program participants had the opportunity to attend NCGA's Corn Congress, tour the DelMarVa region — touring a crab and oyster farm, a horse therapy farm, a grain mill and a farm-to-table produce stand growing more than 100 varieties of flowers and vegetables — visit Capitol Hill and participate in industry and agency visits. Participants also interacted with national and international leaders alongside the Nebraska Corn delegation.

Agriculture has a key role in every space, including our nation's capital, and these opportunities allow leadership attendees to gain first-hand experience in understanding this work.

From the field to classrooms everywhere. As another school year begins, Nebraska corn is helping students learn and create. Corn is used in products like crayons, adhesives, paper coatings and other bio-based materials found in classrooms across the country.

The Nebraska Corn Board has new leadership for the year ahead.

Andy Groskopf, a farmer from Scottsbluff, was elected chair. Ted Schrock, a farmer from Elm Creek, was elected vice chair. John Krohn, a farmer from Albion, was elected secretary/treasurer.

Congratulations to all three on stepping into these new roles to serve Nebraska corn farmers in a leadership capacity.

County and state fair season means lots of time behind a windshield. Nebraska corn is valuable far beyond the farm. Not only does corn fuel vehicles through ethanol, Nebraska grain and grain product exports generated $4.61 billion in economic output, supported 14,191 jobs and added $1.5 billion to Nebraska's gross state product in 2023. Both domestic demand and global markets continue to strengthen Nebraska agriculture.

This summer, the Nebraska Corn Board was proud to partner with the Nebraska Soybean Board to sponsor a grain bin safety training and rescue tube delivery for local first responders.

Conducted by the National Education Center for Agricultural Safety through Nationwide's Grain Bin Safety campaign, the training provided firefighters with hands-on experience needed to respond to grain bin emergencies.

Grain bin accidents can happen in seconds, making preparation and proper training critical. By supporting this effort, Nebraska Corn Board is helping strengthen safety for Nebraska farmers, farm families and rural communities.

"I had the privilege to travel to Washington, D.C. and attend NCGA July Action Team meetings, Corn Congress and visit Capitol Hill. It was truly a wonderful experience and one I will never forget. From listening in on grower's action team meetings, to one-on-one discussions with farmers, to witnessing 127 delegates come together to make decisions during Corn Congress there was no doubt about the passion these growers have for the corn industry, and how deeply they care about its future. NCGA does an amazing job advocating for farmers. It was truly an honor to be able to witness this firsthand and be a part of the process. I look forward to carrying the knowledge and skills gained from this week into future opportunities and experiences."
