It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of a dear friend and longtime advocate of The Arc of Lincoln, Dick Longacre.
Dick’s impact on our organization—and on the lives of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families—cannot be measured simply in years. His advocacy, commitment, and belief in the importance of inclusion helped shape the history of The Arc of Lincoln and The Arc of Nebraska.
Dick was part of the heart of this movement. He understood that advocacy is about more than speaking up—it is about showing up, standing beside people, and continuing to work toward a community where every person is valued and belongs.
We are deeply grateful for the many years Dick gave to this mission, for the lives he touched, and for the legacy he leaves behind. Our hearts are with his wife, his children and family, and all those who knew and loved him.
Funeral services will be held Friday, September 11 at 1:30 p.m. at Eastmont, with a cookie reception immediately following.
Parking arrangements have been made for friends and family of The Arc of Lincoln. Please park near the strip mall along the south side of Village Inn and walk to the east entrance of Eastmont, where you will be directed to the auditorium.
A van will be available to shuttle guests who may have difficulty walking the distance; however, the van is not wheelchair accessible. Anyone needing accessible accommodations may be dropped off at Eastmont’s main entrance before the driver parks.
We hope our The Arc of Lincoln family will join us in remembering and celebrating a man whose advocacy helped plant so many of the seeds that continue to grow in our community today.
Thank you, Dick, for believing, advocating, and leading the way. Your legacy will continue in the work we do and in the lives of the people you championed. You will be deeply missed.
