If you want to know what a great rural health leader looks like, look no further than Kyle Kellum. As CEO of Melham Medical Center in Broken Bow, he has spent his career proving that a hospital's zip code shouldn’t dictate the quality of its care. Originally from Montana, he started his career helping patients on the clinical side in radiology and has now served in rural health care for more than two decades. Kyle brings that passion to the NHA Board, where he has been a champion for maternal care and a leading voice on the Rural Health Transformation Program.

We are grateful for Kyle's dedication to keeping Nebraska healthy.

Insurance can require your medication be shipped through their specialty pharmacy — even if it means you must travel further or pay more. It’s called white bagging. Fingers crossed the drugs arrive in good condition on time for your appointment.

The numbers wizards with the NHA Finance Team are always behind the scenes keeping the lights on. They’re the people who get excited about a perfectly balanced spreadsheet and genuinely believe there’s no problem a good Excel formula can’t solve. =HAPPINESS(A1:A10)

It’s called prior authorization. That’s when your doctor has to ask your insurance company whether they're allowed to do their job or not. Expect a wait of 3-14 business days.

This week we're shining a light on another incredible NHA Board Member, Josie Abboud, President and CEO of Methodist Health System, Methodist Hospital, and Methodist Women's Hospital.

Josie’s remarkable 30-year journey at Methodist began right at the bedside as a critical care staff nurse. As a leader, she understands that providing exceptional patient care relies on every single team member in a hospital. From security to environmental services, their dedication to excellence contributes to the health and well-being of Nebraskans. It’s this exact philosophy that drives Methodist’s proud, long-standing sponsorship of the NHA’s Caring Kind Awards, celebrating the heroes of health care.

Thank you, Josie, for your leadership and your deep dedication to the health care workforce!
