IT'S OPENNNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!!
Lincoln, NE –June 12, 2024 – The Lancaster County Engineer is pleased to announce the opening of County Bridge X-129, located on Panama Road and East of S 54th Street, Wednesday, June 12, 2024, at 8:00 a.m., following the completion of a new bridge.

The previous bridge, a 27' x 62' concrete slab structure, was constructed in 1963 and gifted to Lancaster County by the Corps of Engineers when they built Stagecoach Dam. This bridge was closed in 2019 after the bomb cyclone.

The old bridge has now been replaced with a modern 120', 3-span, continuous concrete slab bridge. Designed by JEO Consulting Group and constructed by Midwest Infrastructure, the new bridge represents a significant upgrade at a cost of approximately $1,562,800.00.

Lancaster County Engineering has opened County Bridge S-180, located on Roca Road between S 82nd and S 96th, after the completion of the largest bridge-to-box culvert replacement project in Lancaster County to date.

This project removed a 24' wide x 51' long steel deck girder bridge built in 1958 for $21,138.45. This bridge was closed due to loss of soil behind the bridge's back walls that caused settlement on the roadway. In addition, this bridge was rated β€œPoor” by bridge inspectors.

The new 4 barrel-12' x 12' x 80' Concrete Box Culvert was designed by Benesch. The culvert design incorporated modern environmental practices to slow the water down as it enters the lake, this will prevent the creek from becoming wider and deeper in the future. The length of the new culvert will also allow drivers to have an increased area of recovery if they leave the roadway in this area.

This project was constructed by Vogtscapes Inc., who used innovative fiberglass panels and support systems to speed up the construction process. The project will be opening on schedule and for a cost of approximately $1,162,845.00.

Engineer Dingman said, β€œI am very excited to get this bridge length culvert open for the winter and would like to thank our design and construction partners. Currently there are only 5 bridges closed in Lancaster County, which is the lowest number of closed bridges since the 2015 Floods. This is a major milestone for Lancaster County Engineering. Current funding has allowed Lancaster County Engineering Department to plan on new bridges on the following Roads next summer:

Roca Road at South 162nd Street (R-184)
NW 105th Street at West Mckelvie Road (E-38)
Panama Road at South 54th Street (X-129)
Pine Lake Road at South134th Street (Q-110)
SW 91st Street and Yankee Hill Road (N-114)
Agnew Road and North 27th Street (C-284)

I am hopeful that we can reduce the number of closed bridges in Lancaster County to 2 by the fall of 2024. In addition, this will reduce the number of bridges rated β€œPoor” in Lancaster County to 13!”
