Thanks to Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird for stopping by the Asian Center for a visit yesterday! Our team shared about our work in the community and the mounting concerns local immigrants are facing.

We also presented the Mayor with a few copies of the new book The Lives of Immigrants & Refugees, featuring the stories of 31 newcomer Lincolnites. The book includes the stories of 5 Asian Center team members, and the Mayor herself wrote the forward.

On Friday, several Asian Center team members served as interpreters for a community cancer screening and education event at Clyde Malone Community Center. ❤️‍🩹

Did you know that Asian Center staff speak over 20 languages serving immigrant neighbors from all over the world who call Lincoln home? In 2025, our team served nearly 1,000 local immigrants with health education and support.

What happens when learning to sew becomes a pathway to confidence, connection, and independence?

Recently, a group of immigrant women graduated from the Asian Center's sewing class, turning stitches into new skills, friendships, and possibilities for their families. Read their story and discover the powerful impact of community building through holistic education.

🎥 Speak Up. Save Lives.

Here’s one example of how a short video can start an important conversation. Thank you to Kaw Hser for using his voice to raise awareness about opioid addiction and its impact on our communities. ❤️

Now it’s your turn! The Asian Center’s Speak Up. Save Lives. Video Contest invites local creators to make a 60–90 second video that helps break down stigma, share prevention information, support someone struggling, or simply get people talking about this important issue.

You don’t need fancy equipment or professional experience—just your voice, your perspective, and a willingness to speak up. Videos can be in any language and should be authentic to your community.

And there’s a little extra incentive: $600 for first place and $300 for second place! 🏆
