We have been informed that official-looking emails were sent to fire chiefs in the state recently that use the name and logo of the State Fire Marshal Agency.

The email asks the recipient to click a link to review and sign a document.

Please do not click links on this email. The State Fire Marshal Agency has not sent emails to fire departments or fire chiefs recently and has not asked others to do so for us.

If you look at the sender's email address it appears unusual and not connected to the SFMA.

Thank you to those who notified us of this potentially damaging email.

A reminder that by state law, retail fireworks sales can start June 25th. Local rules may set a later start date and some areas with severe drought have prohibited sales.

Please be careful and aware of your surroundings before setting off fireworks.
