Many remote villages in Nepal still don't have access to electricity. People in those villages burn kerosene lamps to light their houses. Unfortunately, the fumes produced by the lamp result in various fatal diseases among the villagers such as asthma, lung cancer, eyes diseases and so on. However, an inexpensive 2 kilowatt hydroelectric generator can easily provide enough electricity to light up

to 20 households. Not only is a hydroelectric generator mechanically simple and easy to repair, it also provides clean renewable energy with negligible environmental effects. Furthermore, there are many local suppliers of hydroelectric generators located in Kathmandu, meaning the technology does not need to be shipped halfway across the world. Should a mechanical problem arise that is not easily fixed by village residents, a solution can be navigated in their native language by people in their extended community.
