This position travels throughout Nebraska conducting examinations of grain elevators and grain dealers, performing audits and inspections, testing grain moisture meters, and helping ensure compliance with state grain laws.

Recently, members of the Commission had the opportunity to meet with Senator Deb Fischer and Federal Communications Commission Commissioner Olivia Trusty. The topics discussed were wide ranging and the insights provided by Senator Fischer and Commissioner Trusty were invaluable.

I also had the opportunity to share some of the great work we are doing at the Nebraska Public Service Commission to expand Telehealth access and deliver connectivity to improve health monitoring for infants at child care centers. This pilot project will help young and first-time parents have confidence in returning to work and leaving their children in the care of others. I believe this will have a direct impact on preventing sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS), increase workforce retention and deliver meaningful economic benefits to our state.

PSC Chair Tim Schram recognized Sheriff Neil Miller of the Buffalo County Sheriff's Office at his final 911 Service System Advisory Committee (SSAC) meeting this week.

Sheriff Miller is stepping down after more than 25 years of service on state 911 advisory groups. He is widely known as a leading authority on 911 issues in Nebraska, and his leadership has helped shape the system we rely on today.

As part of SSAC, Sheriff Miller advised the PSC on important 911 matters that supported reliable emergency communication across the state.

A case the PSC is following closely will be before the Nebraska Supreme Court this week.

At the center of the case is a dispute over local permitting authority after Gage County denied Pinpoint Communications a permit for a project funded through the PSC’s Nebraska Broadband Bridge Program – a grant program designed to expand high-speed internet access to rural areas of the state.

Pinpoint successfully challenged the county’s decision in district court, and now the case heads to the state Supreme Court, with oral arguments scheduled for Thursday.

As the court considers the issue, the PSC appreciates the Nebraska Attorney General’s Office for filing an amicus brief supporting the Commission’s authority to administer the broadband program.

Reliable broadband is essential infrastructure. And efficiently expanding access helps strengthen education, health care, economic growth and public safety across Nebraska’s unserved and underserved communities.
