We're more active in warmer weather and so are ticks. As we spend time outdoors, here are some steps to prevent tick-related illnesses:

- Use EPA-registered insect repellents.
- Check yourself for ticks. Make sure to check in and around hair, under the arms, inside the belly button, on the back of knees, between the legs and around the waist. Shower soon after being outdoors.
- If you do find yourself with a tick attached to your skin, removal is easy and can be done without seeking medical attention. See link in comments for more information on how to remove a tick.

Pets can also be susceptible to tick bites and tick-related illnesses:

- Check pets that go outdoors daily for ticks.
- If you find a tick on your pet, remove it right away. The longer the tick is attached, the more likely it is to pass along germs that can make pets and people sick.
- If you plan to use a tick prevention product, talk with a veterinarian to determine the safest and most effective choice for your pet.

CDC data reveals a nearly 27% decline in drug overdose deaths from 2023 to 2024 – the most significant drop in decades. This reduction brings the annual death toll to its lowest level since 2019. While this is a step forward, the overdose crisis remains a critical public health issue.

Synthetic opioids, primarily illicitly manufactured fentanyl, continue to be the leading contributors to overdose deaths.

Polysubstance use, involving multiple substances, has been a significant factor in overdose fatalities.

Let's continue to support programs that save lives and work together to combat the overdose epidemic.
