Amongst yesterday’s calls for service, Lincoln responded to Stonehedge Rd for a simultaneous report of smoke coming from a home and a possible furnace blowback. It was confirmed a blow back however, Fire Department gas meters found the home charged with Carbon Monoxide and unfortunately, no CO detectors present. Thankfully all residents were accounted for safe and mechanically ejected the CO from the home.

26F does require all homes to have a working carbon monoxide detector on all habitable levels of a home but, that can still leave questions. Below are a few resources from DFS and as always we are happy to help.

We are into Outdoor Burning Season 26', which began January 15th, and we would like to thank you all, in advance, for doing your part to maintain a safe burning season. The two most common causes of fires this time of year are; unattended outdoor burning and improper disposal of ash from fireplaces and wood stoves. We have had several fires ignite up to 24 hours after materials were left or dumped.

As a reminder to everyone who had a burn permit last year, the burn permits are now online through the Town’s online billing system. Permits are still $5 and only need to be paid once, for the entire season.

https://epay.cityhallsystems.com/

-Enter the town name: Lincoln

-Choose “Purchase burning permit”

-Complete the required fields and submit payment

*Once you have a permit, you will still have to call the day you plan to burn with your address, permit number and contact number. In doing so, you're helping us to know where Open Burns are or have taken place, in case of emergency.

Earlier tonight, Lincoln responded to Birchwood Ln for a CO alarm. On arrival, they found a small electrical fire in the basement, which had triggered the alarm, and was quickly extinguished.

At the time, the Homeowners were out of the house but thankfully, the complex had up to date Smoke/CO detectors.

All occupants are safely accounted for and damage was kept to a minimum with no injuries reported.

Just after 3p today, Lincoln Public Safety began getting reports of a car fire on Round Hill Rd. Lincoln responded with Engine 2 and on arrival, found a car fully involved, and that fire was rapidly spreading to the house. The Box was transmitted as the four members of the duty crew went to work extinguishing both the house and car. The fires were rapidly brought under control, keeping damage to the house to a minimum and thankfully all residents are accounted for, with no injuries reported. We would like to thank Weston, Wayland and Concord Fire for their assistance on scene as well as Sudbury and Waltham for covering the Town during this time.

This past Friday night, Lincoln Firefighters responded to Concord Rd for a reported outside fire. On arrival, it was found that the fire had started in the home, when a charging Lithium Ion battery had begun to overheat, runaway and caught fire. The Homeowner was able to remove it from the home in time but, shortly thereafter the device failed and combusted, just before it was extinguished. Thankfully all residents are reported safe and damage was kept to a minimum.
When properly operated, Lithium Ion devices are safe but, we would like to remind everyone to follow manufactures recommendations, use only manufactures recommended parts and batteries and follow safe charging instructions including chargers, charging locations and condition.

For more information, please see the flyer from the Dept. of Fire Services.
