This morning, we had a report of a black bear sighting in our area. While unexpected, black bears are native to Alabama and they typically try to avoid human interaction.

If you happen to see a black bear, please keep your distance and make every effort not to disturb it and allow it to continue on its way.

If you find yourself in a close encounter with a black bear, stay calm, SLOWLY back away, and try to make yourself seem "big" by waving your arms over your head, using an assertive voice, making noise, or clapping your hands.

Please remember that it is ILLEGAL to shoot, harm, or harass a black bear in the State of Alabama.
