Wednesday night was Department Drill Night! 🚒🚑

Our fire members sharpened their skills with an in-house tanker shuttle drill, while our EMS members worked through a variety of trauma and cardiac arrest scenarios. Training like this helps keep our members prepared to respond when our community needs us most. 💪🏼

**DRILL NIGHT**

This past Wednesday the Somers Volunteer Fire Department had our weekly drill night. This department drill focused on strengthening teamwork with our law enforcement partners. 🚔🐕

A big thank you to the K-9 Units from the New York State Police, Carmel Police Department, and Kent Police Department for joining us and providing demonstrations. Members had the opportunity to learn more about K-9 operations and how we can better support one another while working together on emergency scenes.

Training together builds stronger partnerships, improves communication, and ultimately helps us better serve our community. Thank you to all who participated!

And that’s a wrap on parade season for the Somers Volunteer Fire Department! 🇺🇸🚒

This summer, we proudly represented the SVFD at Katonah Fire Department , Yorktown Heights FD , and Mahopac Vol. Fire Dept parades. We wrapped up the season in Mahopac, where we were honored to receive the Best 7–14 Members trophy! 🏆

A huge thank you to all of our members who spent countless hours cleaning and preparing our apparatus before each parade. Your hard work and dedication truly paid off.

Congratulations to everyone on a great parade season!

⚠️ Storm Safety Reminder ⚠️

Throughout last night and into today, members of the Somers Volunteer Fire Department have been responding to storm-related incidents alongside the Somers Highway Department, Somers PD, NYSDOT, NYSEG, and other emergency response partners. We appreciate everyone’s hard work and cooperation as cleanup efforts continue.

As you continue cleaning up around your home and traveling through town, please keep these important safety reminders in mind:

🚦 Treat non-functioning traffic signals as four-way stops.

⚡ Stay away from downed power lines and damaged trees. Always assume power lines are energized.

🔌 Never operate generators inside your home, garage, or near doors and windows.

🎆 Used fireworks can remain hot long after they’re used. Soak them thoroughly in water before disposal—never place them directly into your garbage can.

🌳 Use caution around downed trees, limbs, and debris, as hidden hazards may still exist.
