Sprague first-graders recently completed an exciting writing and science unit focused on animals. Each student chose an animal to research using non-fiction books and digital tools, learning facts about habitats, behaviors, and more. After gathering their information, students created their own non-fiction books to showcase what they had learned, as seen in these photos.

🏆 The Dawn Anderson Volunteer Angel Award is the PTO's highest accolade, given to a parent or guardian whose youngest student is graduating from District 103. Unlike the Volunteer of the Year Award, which factors in recent contributions, this award takes into consideration a nominee's entire tenure at D103.

This version of the PTO's "Lifetime Achievement Award" was named to honor the legacy of Dawn Anderson, a district parent who tirelessly devoted her time to D103 across many different roles. She set the bar for what volunteerism looks like in our community, and that is still the standard our nominees for this award are held to.

Please join us in honoring this year's four recipients of the Dawn Anderson Volunteer Angel Award:

💫 Kari Davenport
💫 Marissa Grossenbach
💫 Maria Peterson
💫 Kathy Reibel

These women are past room parents, school board members, PTO presidents, Teacher Appreciation Week leads, Explore the Arts leads, Half Day Fun Fair coordinators, and grant review committee members — among other things. The list of activities that these women led seems limitless. It was never about where their own kids went to school. It was always about this community as a whole. They showed up, stood out and left a lasting mark.

We are so very grateful to each of these women for their contributions to Lincolnshire-Prairie View School District 103 which simply cannot be measured. ❤️

In our cozy second-grade classroom, Team (Lisa) Popjoy was transformed into a “Book Café,” with students excitedly hosting a special book tasting for kindergarten, first- and second-graders. Each second-grader “chef” prepared a short presentation about their favorite book, sharing just enough to spark interest—like a “taste” of the story—without giving away the ending as seen in these photos. Tables were set up like café stations, complete with simple decorations and menus listing the featured books. Younger students or “customers” rotated from table to table, listening, asking questions, and gluing down titles onto their plates, finding books they might want to read next. Taking their full plates with them to the library to find some new fast reads was the main goal of the event. The room buzzed with enthusiasm as students recommended picture books, practiced speaking skills, and celebrated a shared love of books and reading in a playful, engaging way.

Some 184 second-graders toured Half Day School, where they will attend next school year. The school band greeted them with pomp and circumstance as they arrived as these photos illustrate.
