At South Fork Volunteer Fire Department, we provide more than just fire protection.

Our members are trained and equipped to respond to serious vehicle accidents requiring extrication and rescue operations. When lives are trapped in damaged vehicles, our firefighters work quickly and safely using specialized tools and training to free victims and provide critical care until EMS transport is available.

From structure fires to vehicle rescues, storm response, medical emergencies, and community risk reduction— we are committed to serving our district whenever and wherever the need arises.

We are proud to protect this community and grateful for the continued support of our residents.

Steady day for the members of South Fork Fire Department. Today’s crew has stayed busy handling a variety of calls including a minor traffic accident, a service call, a public education event, and a working fire.

South Fork was dispatched to a reported outside fire on Hawks Bill Drive. While units were responding, Lincoln County Communications advised crews they were receiving multiple calls reporting a mobile home fire. The incident was upgraded, adding Crouse Fire Department, North Gaston Fire Department, and Lincolnton Fire Department to the response.

Units arrived on scene to find a fully involved camper and utility trailer. Crews worked quickly to bring the fire under control and extinguish it safely. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.

We’re thankful for the strong working relationships with our mutual aid partners and for the dedication of our firefighters who continue serving the community around the clock.

Staffing matters.

South Fork Firefighters were dispatched to an outside fire and arrived to find two vehicles burning just feet from a nearby home. The situation posed an immediate threat of spreading to the structure, but thanks to our on-duty crew and responding volunteers, the fire was quickly brought under control.

Our team was on scene in just 2 minutes and 14 seconds—an example of how critical proper staffing and rapid response are in protecting lives and property.

Due to dry conditions and lack of rainfall, the state-issued burn ban remains in effect statewide. Outdoor burning is prohibited but isn’t the only ignition source for wildfire, especially in high-risk conditions.

Farm equipment and machine use can also start wildfires. While working outdoors, be mindful of your equipment, and watch for sparks!

Check for and fix fire hazards before operating farm equipment or machines.
👉Remove any buildup of crop residue around the engine, exhaust system, belts and chains.
👉Repair damaged exhaust system components, worn or frayed drive belts, broken or exposed electrical wiring, worn or misaligned moving parts which can indicate a lack of lubricant, and signs of leaking fluids, oil and fuel.
👉For portable, gasoline-powered equipment, make sure you have a properly functioning spark arrester installed.
