Ducktrap Wildlife Preserve

Ducktrap Wildlife Preserve The Ducktrap Wildlife Preserve (DWP) is a non-profit corporation in the State of Maine founded in the early 1990's by Hans and Brigitte Gautschi.

Much the land is located near or adjacent to the Ducktrap River, Kendall Brook, and Knights and Pitcher Ponds in the Towns of Lincolnville and Northport. Hans died in 2003. Brigitte, an artist and ardent naturalist, now makes her seasonal home in a log dwelling on Pitcher Pond. The DWP protects and enhances the wildlife habitat of the Ducktrap River Watershed through ownership of more than 700 acr

es of ecologically sensitive lands. The Board of Directors provides leadership for the work of the organization and collaborates with other conservation organizations in protecting sensitive wildlife lands within the watershed. Targeted wildlife educational programs with nearby schools are conducted in partnership with the Tanglewood 4-H Camp and Learning Center of the University of Maine Cooperative Extension with the goal of inspiring the next generation of wildlife conservationists and naturalists. The rustic cabin, Whispering Woods" occupies Preserve lands adjacent to the Ducktrap River, on the opposite bank from the State of Maine owned Tanglewood 4-H Camp property. The cabin has been converted to a rustic venue in which visitors both young and old can experience the magic and mystery of solitude in these beautiful forests. Board of Directors
