If you are visiting your senior loved ones over the holidays, do some quick safety checks. Today’s employee highlight is Kerry Quirin! Her favorite memory from Senior Living Experts is going to a client’s home and hearing the story of their life.
“She stayed home with their kids, and he was a baker in a nearby bakery. He woke up at the crack of dawn, but was back home by mid-day. The simplicity of their lives back then is something I could only dream of, as compared to our hurried lives these days. They were thinking of going into senior living in the future, so I was there to go over options, pricing, and which services and amenities are included. I love the stories seniors have to tell!”
A fun fact about Kerry is that she can still recite a two page poem, “Sick” from Shel Silverstein’s “Where the Sidewalk Ends”!

A wellness feature that should be included in all senior living communities is nature. Whether it is garden walls, water features, or big windows that allow natural light to come in, seniors can benefit from the outdoors, even if it is brought from the outside in. Another wellness feature that is becoming more popular in senior living communities is technology, especially AI technologies that can help prevent falls or improve air quality.

It is very important for seniors to get a lot of sleep because it prevents obesity, diabetes, heart health and depression. People often believe the amount of hours of sleep you get per night is the only thing that matters, however, your sleep schedule is just as equally important. It is recommended to go to sleep at the same time each night and wake up at the same time each morning in order to truly experience a good night sleep.

One of her favorite memories from LHA is playing violin for a resident through weekly video sessions during her junior year. “My resident’s name was Joan, and on one Facetime call we had a wonderful conversation about where she grew up and her first summer job.”
A fun fact about Liana is that she named her rescue dog Tayto after a popular Irish potato chip brand!
