As an enterprise fund, the Village’s Water and Sewer Fund is created to account for operations that are financed and operated in a manner similar to private business enterprises. The intent is that costs of providing goods or services to the general public on a continuing basis be financed or recovered primarily through user charges. With Fall upon Us, the Village would like to remind residents to help keep catch basins clear of fallen leaves by raking them up and bagging them for collection. Catch basins obstructed by leaves prevent stormwater flow into the Village’s sewer system, which can lead to flooded streets and sidewalks. Leaves should never be placed in piles on the roadway. Yard waste, such as leaves, can be disposed of by collecting them in brown yard waste bags. Sticks and branches should be bundled together, not exceeding four feet in length. No branch should be larger than four inches in diameter, and the bundle cannot weigh more than 50 pounds. Yard waste should be set out with your refuse and recycling on Mondays.

The Village, along with its contractor Backflow Solutions, Inc. (BSI) are in the process of conducting a survey of residents regarding the cross-connection program management. A cross-connection is a physical connection between a possible source of contamination and the drinking water system piping. This connection, if not properly protected, can lead to the contamination of the drinking water system through a backflow event – or when the flow of water is reversed. This survey will help the Village to determine if current or potential cross-connections exists. The information collected will help identify where backflow prevention devices may be needed as well as provides information on existing devices. These surveys were recently distributed via the mail, but residents who received the survey can also respond online at https://bsionline.com/lincolnwood/. If you have questions about the survey itself, BSI can be reached at 888-966-6050 / [email protected] and the Village’s Public Works Department can be reached at 847-675-0888.

Scam Alert! The Village wants to alert residents and businesses that there is an ongoing phone scam in which suspects pose as members of law enforcement, in some cases using the names of real Lincolnwood Police Officers, to coerce victims into giving them money or information such as your social security number. They will often disguise their number to make it look like it is coming from the Police Department. The person will often try to coerce victims to give them money to pay fines or fees with cash, credit cards, gift cards, payment apps, or even cryptocurrency. No member of the Lincolnwood Police Department would ever call someone to demand money or personal information such as your social security number. If you suspect that a call is a scam, then hangup the phone and immediately call the Lincolnwood Non-Emergency Line at 847-673-2167.

There has been a surge in structure fires linked to e-bikes stored and charged inside residential dwellings nationwide. To reduce the risk, e-bike owners should always use a manufacturer-approved charger and charge the bike in a well-ventilated area. Regularly inspect the e-bike's battery for any signs of damage, and designate a specific and safe area within your home or garage solely for e-bike charging.
