December is Holiday Safety Month. The Lincolnwood Police Department giving some tips on how to celebrate safely this holiday season.❄🎄🔒

We know it's getting colder out but leaving your keys in the ignition of your running car with no one in it, is running the risk of getting your car stolen. There are ways to combat that problem is to get an automatic car starter, or to sit in your car until it is warm.

🎄🌲Christmas Tree Placement🎄🌲
For many people decorating the Christmas Tree after Thanksgiving is a family tradition, along with placing it in the front window for everyone to admire. But did you know that's not the "safest" location? Criminals like to window shop so consider moving it to another location in your home and do not display gifts where they can be seen from the outside.

🚨Community Alert: Protect Your Packages During the Holiday Season! 🚨

As we approach the holiday season, it's essential to be vigilant and proactive in safeguarding your packages from porch pirates. Unfortunately, this time of year tends to see an increase in thefts, and we want to ensure the safety and security of our community. Here are some tips to help you protect your deliveries:
1. **Schedule Deliveries**: Whenever possible, schedule package deliveries when you're home or opt for delivery at a secure location.
2. **Security Cameras**: Install security cameras that capture your porch area. They can be a deterrent and provide evidence if needed.
3. **Delivery Notifications**: Sign up for delivery notifications, so you know when your package is arriving.
4. **Request Signature Confirmation**: Choose delivery options that require a signature upon delivery.
5. **Neighborhood Watch**: Communicate with your neighbors and establish a neighborhood watch to keep an eye on each other's properties.
6. **Secure Mailbox**: If you have a mailbox, make sure it's secure and not overflowing with mail, signaling your absence.
7. **Retrieve Packages Promptly**: Retrieve your packages as soon as possible after delivery.
If you witness any suspicious activity in your neighborhood, please don't hesitate to contact us immediately. Working together, we can help prevent porch theft and keep our community safe during the holiday season.
Stay safe, stay aware, and enjoy the upcoming festivities responsibly.

🔥🎄 Keeping the Holiday Spirit Bright and Safe! 🎄🔥
The holiday season is officially around the corner and many of us have already started some festive decorating. But let's not forget the importance of safety during this joyful time. 🌟
🚫 Home Fires: Did you know that home fires are more common during the holidays? From Christmas trees to candles and string lights, there are a few key precautions we should all take:
🎄Choose Safe Decorations: Opt for flame-resistant or flame-retardant decorations. Check for certifications to ensure they meet safety standards.
🌲Keep Trees Hydrated: If you're using a live Christmas tree, make sure to water it regularly. A dry tree is more susceptible to catching fire.
🕯️Candles with Caution: If you love candles, keep them away from flammable materials and never leave them unattended. Consider using LED candles for a safer alternative.
💡Inspect Lights: Examine your holiday lights for frayed wires or other damage. Replace any damaged strings to avoid electrical hazards.
🔌Plug Safely: Don't overload outlets or use damaged extension cords. Consider using a surge protector to keep your electrical connections safe.
🔅Turn Off Before Bed: Always turn off decorative lights and blow out candles before heading to bed or leaving the house.
🧯Fire Extinguishers: Ensure you have a working fire extinguisher in an accessible location and know how to use it.
Let's make sure our holiday season is filled with joy and warmth, not stress and danger. Share these tips with your loved ones, and together, we can have a safe and happy holiday season. ❤️🏡

Black Friday safety risks. Consider these holiday shopping safety tips:🛍️
Keep your purse close to your body or your wallet in an inside coat pocket or front pants pocket.
Don't argue or fight over an item.
Don't take your money out until asked to do so.
Use only one credit card. You can reduce the risk of having multiple cards compromised.
Save your receipts and monitor your credit card activity.
Park in a well lite area, and ask for help moving and loading large items if needed.
If shopping with children, select a central location to meet in case you are separated. Teach kids how to ask a security guard or employee for help if they're lost.
Beware of strangers approaching you for any reason. At this time of year, “con-artists” may try various methods of distracting you with the intention of taking your money or belongings.

Turkey Safety
It is almost Turkey Day! In anticipation, the LPD would like to remind everyone that The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) strongly discourages deep-frying your turkey at home due to all of the risks involved. Some of them include:
• Fryers can tip and spill easily.
• Even slightly frozen turkeys lowered into hot oil can create splatter or a destructive fire.
• The lid and handles can get extremely hot and cause severe burns.
If you cannot be talked out of serving a deep-fried turkey on Thanksgiving Day, please consider the following safety tips and please refer to the graphic below:
• Set up the fryer on a flat surface outdoors.
• Thaw the bird entirely before cooking.
• Measure the oil before you begin cooking using the following steps:
• Place the bird in the fryer with nothing else in it, and cover with water.
• Remove the turkey, pat it dry with a paper towel, and mark the water line in the fryer.
• Drain the water, dry the fryer completely, then fill with oil up to the waterline. This will prevent under- or over-filling.
• Lower the turkey into the oil (and lift it out) as slowly as possible to avoid splatter burns or tipping.
The Village of Lincolnwood neither recommends nor endorses the deep frying of turkeys. The guidance below is solely intended to promote the safety of residents and neighbors.

You've heard of the ...now get ready for the !
Make it a habit to always make sure your keys are taken out of your car, valuables are hidden, and ensure your doors are locked and your car is not left running unattended.
We're seeing an uptick in vehicle thefts. Most of the recent thefts could have been avoided by not leaving the keys in the vehicle or the engine running. Fun fact: It takes less than two seconds to lock your vehicle, so !

November is Child Safety Protection Month!
With the holiday season in full swing, it's incredibly important to remember the importance of kitchen safety! Keeping children at a safe distance of 3 feet from anything that can become hot, such as space heaters, stoves, and campfires, is crucial in preventing potentially devastating burns. Children are naturally curious, and their inquisitive nature may lead them to explore these sources of heat. By maintaining this three-foot buffer, we create a protective barrier that reduces the risk of accidental contact and the resulting burns. This simple yet essential safety precaution empowers parents and caregivers to ensure the well-being of their children, promoting a secure and nurturing environment for them to thrive in. Let's prioritize safety and keep our little ones out of harm's way.
