🔥 **FIRE PREVENTION WEEK: CHARGE SAFELY! 🔋**

E-bikes, e-scooters, power tools, and other battery-powered devices are convenient—but damaged or improperly charged lithium-ion batteries can cause dangerous fires.

🚲🔋 **When charging:**
• Charge e-bikes and tool batteries **outside whenever possible**, away from your home and anything that can burn.
• Use the **manufacturer-approved charger**.
• Never charge a damaged, swollen, or overheated battery.
• Never leave batteries charging unattended or overnight.
• Keep batteries away from heat and flammable materials.
• If a battery shows signs of damage or overheating, **stop using it immediately**.

A few simple precautions can help prevent a devastating fire. **Charge smart. Stay safe.**

⚡ CHARGE SMART. CHARGE SAFE.
Did you know charging your phone, tablet, laptop, or other electronic devices on soft surfaces can create a fire hazard?
🚫 Don’t charge devices on:
🛏️ Beds
🛋️ Couches
🪑 Cushioned chairs
🧺 Blankets or pillows
Soft surfaces can trap heat around the charger and device, increasing the risk of overheating and fire.
✅ CHARGE ON A HARD, FLAT SURFACE
✅ Keep charging devices away from bedding and other flammable materials
✅ Use the charger and cable recommended for your device
✅ Unplug devices when they’re fully charged or when you’re not using them
A few simple habits can help prevent a fire before it starts.

On the 25th anniversary of the horrific terror attacks of 9/11 we remember the 2,977 Americans who were murdered.

Of those Americans we also remember the 343 members of the FDNY killed in the line of duty. Sadly that number continues to rise with each passing day. Since then the FDNY has lost an additional 360+ members to 9/11 related illness.

Each name and face represents lives lived, people loved, and heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice to protect their community. We will never forget.

Yesterday Captain Edwish, Firefighter Adams, Probationary Firefighter Heuschkel and Probationary Firefighter Pares received The Knights of Columbus Shield Award.

They received this award for the actions taken during a severe medical incident that occurred in front of Fire Headquarters on Monday night December 15, 2025. 

The quick and decisive actions of these members saved the patient’s life. Their ability to work seamlessly as a team under extreme pressure directly contributed to the patient’s positive outcome.
