On August 25, 2026, the Cass County Sheriff’s Office, with assistance of the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Criminal Investigations Division, United State Marshals Service, Cass County District Attorney’s Office, DPS Texas Highway Patrol, and Texas Parks and Wildlife conducted a s*x offender compliance check in Cass County.

During the compliance check, law enforcement officers traveled throughout the county to verify registered s*x offenders’ residences, employment, and other required registration information.

As a result of this compliance check two fugitive arrests were made and approximately five registered s*x offenders were placed in non-compliance.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office would like to extend our appreciation to the Texas Department of Public Safety, U.S. Marshals Service, Cass County District Attorney’s Office, and Texas Parks and Wildlife for dedicating their personnel, time, and resources to this compliance check.

Any potential violations identified during the compliance check will remain under investigation and additional charges may be filed as the investigation continues.

🔥 **BURN BAN ISSUED FOR CASS COUNTY** 🔥

Effective immediately, Cass County is under a countywide burn ban for seven days. Conditions will be reevaluated before the order expires to determine whether an extension is necessary.

Please suspend all outdoor burning and avoid activities that could produce sparks near dry vegetation. The cooperation of every resident helps protect lives, property, and our volunteer firefighters.

🚨Fraudulent Calls Claiming to be Cass County Sheriff’s Office 🚨

Once again, our office has been made aware of scam phone calls from individuals claiming to be a deputy or representatives from Cass County Sheriff’s Office.

These callers have demanded payment for:
• Supposed Warrants
• Missed Jury Duty
• Fines
• Inmate release and bonds
• Ankle monitor payment
• S*x offender registry
• Other matters

⭐️ PLEASE REMEMBER:
Cass County Sheriff’s Office will NOT call you to demand immediate payment, request gift cards, cryptocurrency, wire transfers, Cash App, Venmo, Apple Pay, or ask for sensitive financial information over the phone.

Scammers often "spoof" phone numbers to make it appear the call is coming from a legitimate government agency. Even if the caller ID looks official, it may not be legitimate.

On December 6, 2025, at approximately 10:30 p.m., deputies with the Cass County Sheriff's Office responded to a reported shooting at a residence on County Road 4342 in Cass County, Texas.
On arrival, deputies located an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim, identified as Jeremy Scott Quada, 39, was transported for medical treatment and was later transferred to a medical facility in Texarkana. On December 9, 2025, the Cass County Sheriff's Office was notified that Quada had succumbed to his injuries.
An investigation conducted by the Cass County Sheriff's Office determined that Wendy Renee Brian, 39, allegedly discharged a firearm during an altercation, striking Quada.
Based upon the facts developed during the investigation, Wendy Renee Brian has been charged with Murder, a First-Degree Felony, in connection with Quada's death. Brian was taken into custody on June 10, 2026 in Harrison County, Texas.
This investigation remains active. All persons charged with a crime are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.

Today our patrol deputies took a call in reference to another scam going around falsely representing the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.

This particular scammer called from a local phone number attempting to get in touch with our complaint. The call back number went to a voicemail setup identifying him as LT James Gilbert with the County Sheriff’s Office. Cass County Sheriff’s Office does not have a Lt. James Gilbert.

Please, do not return his phone call. If you have a similar phone call and are unsure if it is legitimate or not, contact our main line at 903-756-7511.
