Linden schools are back in session this week! Please help us keep our students safe this school year by following these safety tips:

○ Leave extra time to get to school, stay alert, and avoid distracted driving.

○ Obey speed limits, especially in school zones, and follow your school’s drop-off procedure.

○ Ensure your children know their home address, parent’s names, and a good phone number in the event of an emergency.

○ Make sure your student stays mindful of their surroundings, know basic rules of the road, follow traffic signals, and crosses the street safely when walking or riding.

○ Basic knowledge of riding a school bus starts at home. Talk with your children about how to board a bus, how to behave while on the bus, and how to exit the bus safely.

On August 26, at approximately 1336 hours, the Union County Police Department was dispatched to Wheeler Park for a report of an aggravated assault. Linden PD intercepted a male near Aviation Plaza on Rt 1/9 and Stiles St. The suspect indicated that he stabbed another male in Wheeler Park and was immediately detained. A search of the area revealed a 40-year-old male who suffered multiple stab wounds in the park, near Stiles St and route 1 & 9. The victim was conscious and alert. Linden FD/EMS and union county police personnel arrived, provided immediate care, and transported the victim to University Hospital-Newark, where he remains in stable condition.

Suspect Mark Minotti, DOB 12/31/1998, was arrested, transported to the Union County Police Department, interviewed, processed, and charged with the following:
2C:5-1/2C:11-3a(1) First Degree Attempted Murder
2C:12-1b(1) Second Degree Aggravated Assault
2C:12-1B2 Aggravated Assault with Weapon
2C:39-4d 3rd Degree Possession of a Weapon for Unlawful Purpose (Knife)
2C:39-5d 4th Degree Unlawful Possession of a “other” Weapon

He has been transported to Trinitas Hospital in Elizabeth. All charges are allegations; suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.

Based on the investigation, this is believed to be a random attack by a single actor. There is no continuing safety threat to Wheeler Park or the surrounding area.

Yesterday, we joined the Union County Prosecutor’s Office and community partners from across New Jersey for the 2nd Annual Union County CIT BBQ.

What started here in Linden in 2012 through the vision and passion of Linden Police Captain Abdul Williams has grown into something truly special - with a record 250+ community members coming together this year.

The afternoon was filled with great food, meaningful conversation, and an opportunity to strengthen the partnerships between law enforcement, mental health professionals, and community advocates.

We’re proud to see this Linden tradition continue to grow and bring people together as we work toward a safer, stronger, and more supportive community for everyone.

Over the past several days, we’ve seen a spike in catalytic converter thefts here in Linden. We are not alone—several nearby communities have also experienced a recent surge in these crimes.

Catalytic converter thefts are quick and organized.

Thieves often:

• Strike late at night or during the early morning hours

• Work in pairs or small groups

• Complete a theft in less than two minutes

• Use tools that can make surprisingly little noise, which may be mistaken for construction, a delivery, or normal vehicle activity

Suspicious activity, such as unfamiliar people or vehicles lingering near parked cars or unusual noises, should be reported immediately - do not approach.

Stay alert, look out for your neighbors, and report suspicious activity. Your efforts could help prevent a theft or identify those responsible.
