On Tuesday, Congresswoman LaMonica McIver presented a check for $1,075,000 to Mayor Derek Armstead to support critical upgrades to our 9-1-1 Dispatch Center.

These improvements will help enhance the technology and infrastructure our Dispatchers rely on every day to answer emergency calls and coordinate emergency responses throughout our community.

Today we remember Linden Police Officer John Byko, who made the ultimate sacrifice 91 years ago when his patrol vehicle was involved in a head-on collision on June 14, 1935.

Earlier this week, members of the Linden Police Department, joined by Mayor Derek Armstead, Councilman Barry Javick, and members of the Byko family, gathered at Rosedale Cemetery to honor Officer Byko’s service, sacrifice, and lasting legacy.

Officer Byko remains the only Linden Police officer to have lost his life in the line of duty. We are grateful for his service and remain committed to ensuring that his sacrifice is never forgotten.

Three years ago, we partnered with Linden Public Schools to bring the L.E.A.D. (Law Enforcement Against Drugs & Violence) program to schools throughout our community.

Since then, our Officers have delivered L.E.A.D. instruction in every elementary school in the district, helping hundreds of 5th-grade students develop the skills and confidence to make positive decisions, resist peer pressure, and reduce the risks of drug abuse and violence.

To help support this important program, clothing donation bins have recently been placed at School No. 10. Proceeds generated from donated clothing, shoes, and other accepted items help offset the cost of educational materials used in our classrooms.

We encourage residents to consider donating gently used clothing and shoes to support the next generation of Linden students.

Thank you for helping us invest in the safety, education, and future of our community.
