Hello, AC season. Before you cool down, make sure your air conditioner is set up safely. Plug window air conditioners directly into a wall outlet.

Many manufacturers do not allow extension cords. If they are allowed, use the proper type and follow the manufacturer’s instructions.

This week the Linden Fire Department, with a sponsorship from Citgo, was proud to host a screening of “After The Fire” for the Linden High School Senior Class of 2026 — a documentary short based on the true story of Alvaro Llanos and Shawn Simons, survivors of the devastating Seton Hall University fire of January 19, 2000.
That night a fire broke out in a freshman dormitory in South Orange, NJ while hundreds of students slept. Three students lost their lives. Dozens more were injured. Alvaro and Shawn were among the most critically burned — enduring years of physical and emotional recovery that most people couldn’t imagine.
Today they travel the country sharing their story at schools, firehouses, and conferences — not for sympathy, but to make sure it never happens again.
Watching our students engage with Alvaro and Shawn after the screening — asking questions, listening, taking it in — that’s exactly what fire safety awareness looks like in real life.
We are grateful to Alvaro and Shawn for bringing their story to Linden. Their courage and resilience is a reminder of why what we do matters every single day. 🙏🔥

This past weekend I had the honor of attending the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial
Weekend at the National Fire Academy in Emmitsburg, Maryland. It was particularly heart felt, because I had the privilege to be the es**rt for the family of Linden Fire Department Firefighter Lewis Haskell, who was one of the Fire Heroes added to the National Memorial. Firefighter Haskell suffered a heart attack while operating on the fire ground at a structure fire on the corner of Lindegar St. and W. Elizabeth Ave. on November 8, 1982. Two months later while still recuperating FF Haskell suffered a fatal heart attack at home.
The National Memorial was built in 1981. Unfortunately the department never submitted an application for him to be added to the National Memorial. Thanks to the work of Deputy Chief Carl Tattoli, retired Deputy Chief Kevin Brady and retired Captain Brian Pericone, who made a submission to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation, FF Haskell finally received the recognition he so deserved.

This week the Linden Fire Department had the honor of hosting Donavin Garcia - the young man behind the logo on our Autism Awareness shirt.
Love. Hope. Accept.
Donavin came through the firehouse, tried on the gear, and was surrounded by members of the Linden FMBA and our Mayor who all came out to celebrate him and his work.
Moments like this remind us why we do what we do. Proud to serve this community. Every single day.

From our stations to our community’s homes — Linden remembers.
We honor those who gave everything. We stand with their families. And we carry their memory forward every single day.
