Storms can happen any time of year, and the best time to prepare is before severe weather is in the forecast. As we recognize National Preparedness Month, take a few minutes this week to build or refresh your emergency kit. Include essentials like bottled water, nonperishable food, flashlights, extra batteries, a first-aid kit, medications, phone chargers and important documents. via NRECA

Heat index is more than just the temperature on the thermostat—it's how hot it feels. High heat indices put extra strain on the grid. While our power from Western Farmers Electric Cooperative is reliable even in extreme heat, you can do your part at home to help us keep the power flowing:
🌡️ ️ Keep your thermostat at the same temperature.
🌡️ Use ceiling fans.
🌡️ Run major appliances when temperatures cool down.

While being a “member” and “customer” might sound like the same thing, they’re not. The difference is more than just semantics. It’s a mindset. Being a “customer” is passive: you pay a bill, get a service and the relationship ends there. But being a member is active. It’s about participating in something bigger than yourself. Own your membership. RE:MEMBER—your cooperative belongs to you.

Stay cool this summer without sweating your energy bill:
✅ Keep the gap between indoor and outdoor temps as small as possible to ease the load on your HVAC system.
✅ Raising your thermostat by just 1 degree can trim cooling costs by about 1%.

At least 60% of every dollar paid to REC goes directly toward the cost of wholesale power—the electricity we purchase, then deliver to homes and businesses across the local communities we serve. The remaining portion helps cover equipment maintenance, essential system upgrades and the dedicated team that helps keep the lights on 24/7.

We are currently experiencing an outage off our Loftman substation, North feeder - impacting members around the Criner and Payne areas up to the Bear Creek addition. We have identified the problem and working to restore the outage as quickly as possible. Approximate restoration time is one hour.

Try LED lights this summer for a more efficient lighting option! LEDs emit very little heat. In comparison, incandescent bulbs release 90% of their energy as heat and CFLs release about 80% of their energy as heat. 💡
