At the WVDOT, we are incredibly proud when our employees get involved in the communities we serve. That is why we are thrilled to highlight WVDOT’s own Stephen Capaldo, who is leading a very special upcoming event!

Monroe County’s story is written in the steady courage of the men and women who answer the call to help their neighbors. In honor of the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, the Monroe County Historical Society has invited Stephen to present a program celebrating the institutions that have protected our homes and anchored our communities: our local fire departments!

He will be honoring the Union, Peterstown, Ballard, Lindside, and Alderson fire departments, tracing their spirit of service all the way back to Benjamin Franklin's first volunteer fire brigade.

🚨 Special Invitation: All active and inactive firefighters! Please bring your stories, photographs, artifacts, and memorabilia. Help us preserve a living history built by the real people on the front lines.

📅 When: Sunday, July 12th at 2:00 PM
📍 Where: Ames Clair Hall in Union

Please share this post and tag any local firefighters you know!

From all of us to you and your family, we wish a very safe and happy 4th of July.

This evening, our members participated in a landing zone safety training session with Healthnet Aeromedical Services, where they gained knowledge on safety precautions, secure landing zone protocols, and additional safety measures. Healthnet Base 9 was in attendance and provided a tour of their aircraft.

We are saddened to hear of the loss of a dedicated community servant, cherished friend, and valued colleague. Please keep her family and loved ones in your thoughts and prayers during the difficult days ahead as they navigate this tremendous loss.

It is with profound sadness that the Monroe County Commission announces the passing of a loyal, long-serving county employee, Mrs. Tammy Fox.

Mrs. Fox began her career with Monroe County as a 911 Dispatcher during the program’s earliest days. She was the calm, composed voice on the other end of the line—guiding our citizens through their darkest hours with unwavering professionalism and deep love for her work. More than anything, she loved the people of this county. For many, she was the steady voice in the night when help was needed most.

Later in her career, she was promoted to Deputy Director of the 911 Center, where she continued to serve and lead with compassion and dignity. Tammy was truly selfless—always putting the needs of others before her own. In January of this year, she retired to spend precious time with the family she adored beyond measure.

She leaves behind her husband, Ashby “June” Fox; her daughters, Ashley and Vanessa; her sons, Daniel and Hunter; numerous grandchildren; and her mother, Kay Allen.

Tammy, we were honored to have you as an employee, and even more honored to have you as a friend. Your dedication, kindness, and quiet strength left a lasting mark on our courthouse family and on Monroe County.

Please keep the Fox family, the 911 Center staff, and all Courthouse employees in your thoughts and prayers as we mourn the loss of a dear co-worker and friend.

“Those we love don’t go away—they walk beside us every day. Unseen, unheard, but always near, still loved, still missed, and very dear.”

Rest in peace, Tammy. Your service and your heart will not be forgotten.
