Our past fire chief of many years, and only founding member that was left with our dept. passed away early Monday morning. This man served on many organizations and boards in his community as well as giving his all to the volunteer fire service most of his life. Because of his dedication and love for his community, several of his family members are also involved in firefighting and other public services. He has influenced many lives throughout the years and he will be greatly missed. Please keep his family, his entire fire family, and his friends in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you from his daughter, one of those firefighters he influenced many, many years ago to give of myself to my community wherever possible.

The fire departments are planning a 1 day fire camp on October 5. Details of time, place etc. will follow in next post. This post will explain what it is. As many people know it’s really hard to recruit members to be firefighters. Many of us became interested in firefighting at a young age and that is the reason we have been dedicated to the fire service and our communities for so long. I have many health issues and can no longer fight fires but I can teach students and I can organize and persuade other firefighters/first responders to help me with this class. So if I can get the kids to sign up and come to this one day course to learn about firefighting and do some small hands on skills in first aid and things to do with firefighting to see if this is something they might be interested in doing in the future, this might just be the ticket to help keep our volunteer fire departments going strong in the future. This is meant to be a learning experience for those in attendance and we really hope that the students attending have a better understanding of what it takes to be a firefighter or a member of the EMS community. Please as a parent talk to your kids ages 10-16 and see if they would be interested in this learning experience. Next post will have details.

Wright Township Volunteer Fire Department would like to thank everyone involved in the Hub and Spoke grant program for the fire departments. Our department received 8 airpacks and 8 full sets of turn out gear. We will post the turnout gear when we get it in, but we hAaave received the airpacks and are ready to put them in service. We are very thankful to have received this equipment. Our department would not have been able to purchase this amount of equipment out of our budget at one time. Grants like this are so beneficial to departments like ours.

Another thank you from yesterday. No pictures because I wasn’t there to take any. We were called to an out of control brush fire. With the wind yesterday brush and woods fires were happening all over and they spread fast. We called Jasonville, Worthington, Lewis Township and Clay City for assistance and it was very appreciated. Thank you all for your help. Then we went from that fire along with Dugger Union to assist Linton Fire Department on a woods fire in Greene- Sullivan Forest. Guys please today is going to be another VERY WINDY day. We want everyone to be safe. Besides these fires being time consuming and dangerous, our departments also have other people that need us for medical runs and other things and many resources are tied up for hours on these wildland fires when people burn or are a little careless on windy days. So, my public service announcement is please be extra careful with any5hing that could cause a spark and cause a fire on a windy day. Your local firefighters will thank you!!

Thanks go out to so many people today!! Please if I miss anyone, add them to this post. It sometimes takes several departments and agencies working together to do a job and today was definitely one of those days. Wright Township was toned to a fully involved structure fire on Highway 59 in Midland. The black smoke could be seen for miles away and the flames were rolling and very hot. Many small explosions were going off from fuel tanks, acetylene tanks, etc. we immediately called for mutual aid because as a volunteer department most of our members have jobs during the day and that’s what mutual aid is for. Linton Fire and Dugger Union showed up to help. However, even before they were on scene other help was there as well. Greene County Ambulance Service was there. Christy McCammon jumped in to help with running our pumper and helping them pull hose. Tina Boucher helped take care of one of firefighters who possibly broke a couple fingers. Doug Hall was also there checking to make sure we were all good. Jasonville Police officers Ryan Van Horn and Andrew Duguay were there as well as Greene County Sheriffs Deputy Jimmy Carpenter. Anything we asked they did including helping us setting up our dump tank and helping us get tankers in and out. Andrew from Ellis Water helped us at the hydrant fill our tankers and turned off water to the residence. Duke came and got the power off for us. The State Highway came and directed traffic. A member of Lewis Township John F**g and a member from Jasonville, Braden Keller also helped us. Dugger and Linton members were so much help with tanker shuttle and manpower today. The State fire Marshal’s office was on scene to help investigate the fire as well. The dispatchers got us what and who we needed. We can’t thank you all enough. Everyone working together as a team today made my heart happy and I am so glad we were all able to go home safe to our families. Thanks again everyone.
