Your Linwood Fire Dept had a very busy 24 hours.

On 1/31/26 at 1:28am Ladder 5 was dispatched to the City of Somers Point for a commercial structure fire in a massage parlor. Ladder 5 was assigned to interior truck operations and assisted with opening ceilings to access the fire which was located in the attic void space. Ladder 5 was then asked to perform vertical ventilation. Crews made it to the roof and were faced with thick ice and slippery conditions. A hole was successfully cut in the roof to allow smoke and heat to exit the structure and increase visibility for interior crews. Ladder 5 operated on scene for approximately 2 hours. Linwood Fire Station was covered by Captain Gabriel, Chief Walley and multiple volunteer firefighters for any additional calls for service within the City of Linwood.

At 8am Linwood Firefighters participated in annual Ice Rescue Training at Bargaintown Pond. This training helps us to better respond to ice related emergencies on the pond and other bodies of water within our town. Thanks to Bargaintown Volunteer Fire Company and Scullville Volunteer Fire Co. for putting on an incredible training session.

At 5:34pm Ladder 5 was requested to the City of Pleasantville for a reported fire in a basement. Ladder 5 was assigned to secondary search and ventilation. Ladder 5 operated on scene for approximately 30 minutes before returning back to the city. A number of volunteer firefighters covered the station for any additional calls for service within the City of Linwood.

At 07:15 January 29th Fire Department units were dispatched to Our Lady of Sorrows Church for reports of a vehicle fire. Deputy Chief Buzby arrived on scene shortly after dispatch and declared a working trash truck fire. Ladder 5 responded with 1 on duty firefighter. Chief Walley arrived on scene and established command. A recall of all off duty firefighters was requested. Engine 54 responded with one off duty firefighter. Engine 51 responded with 2 firefighters. Extinguishment efforts were complicated due to location of the fire within the truck and below freezing temperatures. Northfield Fire Department and Bargaintown Fire Co. were requested for additional manpower and station coverage. The fire was extinguished and the situation was brought under control in approximately 50 minutes. There were no injuries to any firefighters or the trash truck operator. Thank you to our Linwood Department of Public Works, Northfield Fire Department and Bargaintown Fire Co. for their assistance.
