If you have a moment this weekend and would like a creative way to support our organization we would like to suggest sharing our page with a friend or leaving us a positive google review ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

We are applying for several grants coming up, and some of those grants require a social media following of 50K for eligibility. As a non-profit organization that does not receive any government funding, is staffed by volunteers, and is only supported by donations, meeting that goal and securing these grants would be monumental for our organization, but we need your help!

If we’ve provided you with great service in the form of advice over the phone or email, have treated an injured animal you’ve found OR if you have enjoyed a presentation by one of our public educators, we would love to hear about it!

Release of Red-shouldered Hawk patient Anthony Bourdain 🪶 Tony came to us with a fractured corocoid - likely from an impact with a vehicle. He was found down, stunned and unable to fly.

After weeks of hydration, nutrition and cage rest, he passed his recent test flight and was ready to be on his way! Released back where he was found to hopefully reunite with his mate and rear their young 🪹

If you saw this after our needs were met but still want to support we can always use Walmart gift cards and e-gift cards to purchase our weekly produce!

We have about 400 mouths to feed right now and we are running low on supplies!!!

We are CRITICALLY LOW on:
🥜creamy peanut butter
🥣Gerber rice cereal
🍓frozen strawberries & blueberries

Remember that Barred Owlet that we asked help finding a nest for the other day? You guys REALLY came through for that little guy!

A safe and spacious nest with babies the very same size was found in the comments of the plea we put out!

These parents will be busy, as there was actually a third baby in the cavity we couldn’t see from below but all looked healthy and well tended to.

Being raised in the wild, by two parents, with siblings is the best possible situation for this baby. These circumstances set the owlet up to be both a proficient hunter and socially adept to help it be successful in finding a mate and rearing young of its own in the future. Additionally, this saves MAJOR time, energy, and resources to put toward the critically injured wild patients that come through our doors each day.

We would like to thank you all again for making this a success story for this owlet. And a special thank you to the gracious hosts -both human and owl - who took him into their backyard nest and are keeping watch as he grows up.

UPDATE! FOSTER NEST FOUND! Thank you for coming together and helping us a good fit!

PLEASE HELP! We need a location of a Barred Owl family that can foster this little guy. If you have or know of a nest of barred owlets this size please share with us the address and a recent photo of the babies for size reference. (They need to be the same size) The family needs to be in Kansas. Hoping our community can help us find this baby a nest - we have a climber who can safely place the baby in the nest once one is located. 🪹

As we wrap up our celebration of Be Kind to Animals week we hope that you’ve learned something valuable that you can do and share to show kindness to wildlife.

We would also like to offer you another opportunity to participate, by making a donation to Operation Wildlife. Your donation will go DIRECTLY to providing veterinary care, food, and rehabilitation services for wild animals from all across the state of Kansas.

We are regularly taking in between 30-40 animals PER DAY this time of year and have around 450 animals in our care as we speak. Our volunteers are tirelessly feeding, cleaning and medicating and we would like to share with you a few of the faces your donations will help support.

With just a couple days left highlighting Be Kind to Animals week we would like to touch on a VERY important topic - humane wildlife eviction!

We can pretty much guarantee that everyone out there knows someone right now who has unwanted wildlife taking up residence in or around their home - whether that’s groundhogs burrowing under the shed, foxes denning under a deck, raccoons running around in the attic, skunks under the porch - the list goes on. Why are so many people having this same problem right now? Because it’s BABY SEASON. These animals are mothers finding a safe place to bear their young - and we can also pretty much guarantee that if they are there right now, they have babies.

This means that now is NOT the time to be setting live traps and relocating the animals invading your space. This separates a mother from her babies, creates needlessly orphaned wildlife, and presents a whole other issue you will be left dealing with down the road.

NOT TO WORRY! We have solutions for ALL of these situations on our website - and if you have a scenario not discussed there, we are more than happy to troubleshoot with you to come up with an EFFECTIVE and humane solution to get the critter in question to take its babies with it and leave the area.

We can give you a hint that works for nearly any of these situations - LOUD heavy bass music. Played constantly, as close to the affected area as possible until they have left the area. This is not only a great annoyance to the mother raising her children, trying to sleep etc, but the vibration will actually affect their nervous system such that they will need to leave the area. Another helpful tip is to use a motion activated camera on the area to see when the animal is coming and going, to ensure they’ve taken their babies and none are left behind.

Once this goal is reached you will want to have a plan in place to make the proper repairs in a timely manner so that your next wildlife tenant doesn’t take up residence in the cozy space left behind by the last critter.

This will not only save you hundreds - if not thousands of dollars, if you were considering contacting a trapping company to forcibly remove them, but also will preserve the lives of our native wildlife who are doing as we all wish to do - live our lives in peace with our families.
