We would like to extend our biggest THANK YOU to everyone who showed up to our 2026 Fall Open House! We were amazed by the turnout and so grateful for all of your support! It was a fun day of community building behind-the-scenes tours, great music, delicious food, silent auction bidding, and an extra special raptor release.
This year we had a whopping 323 attendees! We raised $3,265 from ticket sales, $4,519 from silent auction items, $971 in merchandise sales, and $4,682 from donations, for a grand total of $13,462!! These are much needed funds that will be used to pay for heating and electricity through the winter.
We'd like to give special thanks to Americana Music Academy for providing music and entertainment to our guests, The Merc Co+op in Lawrence for supplying beverages, Anderson Rentals, Inc. for supplying our outdoor ‘facilities’, Bag It Up KC and Scheels for their donations of silent auction items and to our OWL volunteers who helped with everything from setup, parking, baking treats, giving tours, cooking food, clean up, and of course animal care before the crowd arrived.
This summer we received a barred owlet that was unable to be renested and was raised at OWL. We were able to house her with a wild, rehabbing adult barred owl while in our care to properly imprint on a member of her own species. This ensures she will have the social, behavioral, and hunting skills necessary to be successful in the wild. The lucky winner of our silent auction had the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to release her back into the wild during the Open House. It was a perfect way to cap off the event and an absolute delight for everyone in attendance to see this majestic bird fly free.
