Yesterday, one of our own, FF/AEMT Pomelow, had the opportunity to serve in a different kind of role after being selected as a "Celebrity Substitute" for the local school's Field Day festivities.

Representing the fire service with pride, our firefighter spent the day participating in games and activities alongside the students, bringing plenty of energy, laughs, and excitement to the event. As temperatures climbed, the highlight of the day quickly became breaking out the fire hose and helping students cool off with a much-needed spray down.

Community involvement extends far beyond emergency response, and opportunities like these allow us to build positive relationships with the families and children we serve every day. Thank you to the school for the invitation and for allowing us to be a part of such a memorable day.

We had a great time, and judging by the smiles, we think the kids did too!

A big thank you to American Legion Post 158 for inviting us to take part in this year's Memorial Day Parade festivities.

Following the parade, our crew had the opportunity to display our ambulance and spend time with the community's youngest members. It was a pleasure answering questions, showing the kids around the ambulance, and sharing a little bit about what we do each day to serve our community.

Events like these help build strong connections between first responders and the people we proudly serve. We are grateful for the invitation and look forward to continuing to support community events in the future.

Thank you, Post 158, for your hospitality and for helping make Memorial Day a meaningful day of remembrance and community involvement.

Rain or shine, tradition carries on. 🇺🇸

Today our community came together for the town’s Memorial Day Parade, honoring the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. Even with the rain falling, the spirit of our town never wavered.

Proud to see members of Lisbon Professional Firefighters Local 5451 standing alongside our partners at Lisbon Police and Lisbon Emergency Services as we continued the tradition and paid tribute to those who gave everything for our freedom.

Days like today are a reminder that service, sacrifice, and community run deeper than the weather. Thank you to everyone who came out to support and remember our fallen heroes. Never forgotten. 🇺🇸🚒🚓🚑

This morning members trained on/in the river alongside our neighboring fire department, who also brought their boat to the training. Crews spent time working on boat operations, river familiarization, coordination between departments, and preparing for emergencies that can happen on the water in our communities.

Training together like this is invaluable. Knowing the river, access points, currents, and potential hazards helps ensure we can provide the best possible service to the people we protect. Building strong working relationships with neighboring departments also strengthens our ability to respond quickly and effectively when mutual aid is needed.

A great morning of training, teamwork, and preparation for the calls we hope never happen — but are always ready for.

Today, our hearts are heavy as we mourn the loss of a brother firefighter from here in the great state of Maine.
The fire service is a family — no matter the patch on our shoulder or the name on the truck. When one of us is lost, we all feel it. We stand together in honoring the sacrifice, dedication, and service that firefighter gave to their community and fellow members.
Please keep their family, friends, and department in your thoughts during this incredibly difficult time. May we continue to support one another and never forget the sacrifices made in this profession.

Could not have stated it better!

Ever wonder why you see a massive fire truck or ambulance parked at the grocery store? It’s a question we get a lot, and the answer is pretty simple: we never truly go "off the clock."
Firefighters and EMTs work long, 24-hour shifts. During that time, the station is our home, which means we have to shop for our meals just like everyone else. However, we stay "in service" every second we’re out. We take the trucks to the store because if a 911 call drops while we’re picking up dinner, we have to respond instantly. We can’t be separated from our equipment or our team!
But here is the best part: please come say hi!
We aren't just here for emergencies; we’re here for the community. If you see us in the aisles or the parking lot:
• 👋 Wave hello.
• 🚒 Ask for a tour. If we aren't rushing to a call, we absolutely love showing the kids (and the kids-at-heart) the trucks and the gear.
• 📸 Snap a photo. We’re always happy to meet the neighbors we serve.
We’re proud to be part of this community. Next time you see the big red truck at the market, don't be a stranger, come meet the crew!

Today, members of our department were proud to assist our neighboring community during a working structure fire by providing station coverage while their crews operated on scene.

While firefighters were committed to the incident, our members helped ensure their apparatus were returned to service and ready for the next call when they returned. Mutual aid is more than responding to emergencies together — it’s about supporting one another so our communities continue to receive the protection they deserve without interruption.

We’re grateful for the strong working relationships between neighboring departments and proud to stand beside those who answer the call, day or night. Stay safe to all crews that operated. 🚒

Training never stops in the fire service. Today, the duty crew spent time sharpening the fundamentals with hose line deployment and pump operations training. Crews worked through pulling attack lines, advancing hose, communication, and flowing water while operators focused on pump pressures, water supply management, and maintaining efficient operations on the fireground.

These drills are critical to keeping skills sharp and ensuring our members are prepared to respond safely and effectively when the call comes in. Repetition, teamwork, and attention to detail are what build confidence and readiness.

Thank you to the crew for their professionalism and commitment to training.The hours put in behind the scenes are what help make successful outcomes possible for our community.

Lisbon Local 5451 would like to publicly address the need of and misconception of Medical Response Unit 8 (M8). There seems to be the idea of this apparatus being redundant of what Lisbon EMS does. It is not. What it is, is a response to Charlie (potentially life threatening) and Delta (serious / life threatening) level calls, as well as responding on lower severity calls when Lisbon EMS is delayed or unavailable, to guarantee our townspeople receive response and care within a timely manner. In which, certain level calls do not permit light/sirens. So seeing M8 "out and about", it could actully be enroute to a call. M8 is also used to transport crews between station to complete daily/task and chores. All of these things were already occurring in previous years utilizing the Heavy Rescue fire apparatus (Rescue 10) and now the response is being done utilizing a more practical vehicle that was purchased with (ARPA)Covid Funds.

The accusations are “joy riding” and making random trips are based on perception and have no factual backing. Many people are still in the process of being approved to drive M8 and may be brought out to get signed off, which includes driving to no actual destination but to be evaluated while operating the vehicle. To address the heartburn with stopping for coffee or groceries, this is being done while headed back from a call, on the road for another task or headed between stations. As stated by Councilor Camire, utilizing a personal vehicle would grossly delay response to an emergency and is not cohesive to preservation of life and property.

As stated by Councilor Larochelle, this apparatus and the responses it makes should be viewed as a partnership with Lisbon EMS and not a rivalry.

Based on lack of understanding of its use and lack of facts which leaves room for assumptions and speculation

We respectfully want the public we serve to understand firsthand, from us, why M8 is seen in the public.
