The Lisbon Police Department would like to remind residents that it is illegal to operate a motor vehicle, ATV, UTV, dirt bike, tractor, or any other vehicle on flood protection d**es and other flood control structures unless specifically authorized.
These structures play a critical role in protecting our community from flooding, and vehicle traffic can cause damage that may compromise their effectiveness.
Under North Dakota law (NDCC 39-10-65), unauthorized operation of a vehicle on flood protective works is a Class B misdemeanor.
🚨 Friendly Neighborhood Reminder 🚨
Today, we witnessed something we never thought we’d have to say out loud: a 4WD pickup truck was spotted driving on the FEMA d**e in Sandager Park as if it were a county road.
While we appreciate confidence in your vehicle’s capabilities, the d**e is not a shortcut, a scenic drive, a test track, or an off-road challenge.
Please take a moment to remind your children (and any adults who may still be children at heart) that driving on the d**e is strictly prohibited. This also includes crossing the d**e by going up and over it.
For the avoidance of doubt: absolutely no motorized vehicles are allowed on the d**e unless specifically authorized. That means no pickups, dirt bikes, UTVs, ATVs, or 4-wheelers.
The d**e is there to protect our community from flooding. Driving on it can cause damage that is expensive to repair and could compromise its effectiveness when we need it most.
Thank you for helping us keep the d**e in good condition and reminding others that just because a vehicle can go somewhere doesn’t mean it should.
