Meet Buck! Buck has been here the longest out of any of our current residents. He came in on Dec 19, 2024 and he is still waiting for a home.
Buck weighs about 75 lbs. and will be 3 years old on March 29th.
We responded to a police call about a dog running around East Liverpool. It was Buck. Buck's owner surrendered him because they weren't able to keep a watchful enough eye to keep him contained, and they wanted him to find a home where he had more room to run. Buck had grown up in a rural area and had property to run when he was a pup. His owner moved in to the city and Buck's space to run turned into a kennel. He would get bored, escape his kennel and run the town. Over 1 year later, Buck is still here at the pound looking for a family to call his own.
Overall, Buck has been a very good boy here at the pound. He LOVES people. I mean LOVES LOVES LOVES them! He is silly, playful and very affectionate. He can be found with a ball or toy in his mouth more often than not and he just loves to play fetch.
When Buck first came in, and for the first few months he was here, he did well around the other dogs. Now that he has been here around the constant noise and other stimuli, he has began being a bit on the reactive side towards other dogs. If someone was savvy with bully breeds and knew what they were doing, they could likely introduce him to a neutral or submissive dog out of this environment and he would probably be okay, but at this time, unless that super savvy person comes along, we will be looking for a home without other pets for him.
Buck can be a big, wiggly goofball that will run and knock you right over... if you let him. If you are stern with him and make him mind his manners, he is SUCH a good boy! He can walk great on a leash (with a reminder here and there). He also knows some basic commands.
He was housebroken when he was surrendered, but after a year in the shelter, he may need a little work to get him back to 100%.
Buck is neutered, current on routine vaccinations, heartworm negative, microchipped, dewormed and will get his current Columbiana County Dog License when adopted. His adoption fee is $152.
Please share this post to help Buck find his new humans! Maybe you know someone that has been looking for a sweet, hunky, good boy. Or maybe you know someone that recently lost their dog. One share to the right place can be the luck these dogs need.
Thank you all. 🐾❤️🐾

Please help us help Dutch!
Dutch is an 8 year old saint Bernard. He was surrendered to us this past Friday. Dutch spent his 8 years living outside and was a breeding dog. One of his owners passed away and the other has declining health. We've been doing our best to help out the owner over the past year or so, pulling the dogs in as space allowed. Friday we took the last 3 that needed help. Dutch, Ellie and Shelby. Today was supposed to be a good day for Dutch. He got a bath, blow dry and brush out, getting rid of that old barn smell. He had chicken for lunch. Treats from some sweet volunteers. Then we noticed it... the giant distended abdomen. The dry heaving that wasn't producing vomit. The panting. The obvious discomfort. Dutch had bloated! None of our veterinarians are able to do the surgery for bloat. We called Rainbow Veterinary hospital and rushed him there this afternoon. They began performing surgery right away. There was no question that he deserves a chance! Today was supposed to be the day his life began to change. He was clean. He had snacks. He was happy. Until he wasn't. Bloat happens so fast!
We got the update that he made it through surgery! Everything went great and Dutch is waking up. Our estimate for surgery was between $4,000-6,000. We know thats a lot of money. We know Dutch is one dog. One 8 year old, large breed dog that probaby only has a couple more good years under his belt. Many shelters probably would have euthanized him. Giving him wasn't even a question to our team! Dutch deserves to learn how to be a house dog! A human to love and bond with. A family that can give him love, care and attention everyday. We know it's a big ask, but if anyone can donate towards his care, it would be greatly appreciated!
We also want to thank everyone that has donated in any capacity. The dollar or two... or 10 or 20 extra you give when you purchase your dog license. The hundreds and even thousands of dollars some of the wonderful people and businesses. We would never be able to save these dogs without you ALL. Thank you from us, our dogs and especially Dutch!

Unfortunately, we do not have any way to donate via online payment platforms such as PayPal. Donations have to made in person or checks can be made out to CCDP and mailed in.

Here is one of the only good photos we have of sweet Dutch. He was supposed to have a photo shoot this afternoon. Instead he spent his afternoon getting surgery.

We will update everyone on Dutch as soon as we can. ❤️❤️❤️

**UPDATE** ADOPTED!! Sampson has been in a foster to adopt for the last week and we are ECSTATIC to inform everyone that he has officially been adopted!! Thank you for all of your shares!!

This is Sampson's "Christmas photo" from 2024. We never thought we'd be sharing it nearly a year later, still trying to find him a family.
Sampson arrived to the pound on July 29, 2024. If he doesn't find family soon, he will be spending his second Thanksgiving and Christmas here at the pound. Although we do everything we can to make our pound dogs feel special and loved, at the end of the day, we are not the same as having a good home with a family to love.
Sampson's back story: Sampson ended up with us because we had a lot of issues with Sampson's previous owner continuing to let him run at large. After not being able to come to an amicable agreement on how he could keep Sampson contained so he wasn't constantly running, it was determined that for Sampson's safety, he wouldn't be returned back to the previous owner. After Sampson was in our care, we had a couple of different people call in explaining that the previous owner was going to try to get Sampson back, but begged us to not return him because he allegedly treated Sampson very poorly at times by beating and kicking him when he "did something wrong".
During all of the times that Sampson ran at large, he never fought with other pets on the streets, but he hasn't done all that great around other dogs when he is face to face with them. He doesn't go out of his way to fight with anyone, but he doesn't want to be their friend either. We know that he lived with another dog at one point, but at this time, we are hoping Sampson can find a home without other pets.
Sampson does best when kept in a heavy duty "escape proof" crate when you're away. He will get out of fences and most kennels, so the best solution for his outdoor time is to walk him on a leash or use a durable time out. He does well on a tie out and will spend hours basking in the sunshine.
Sampson is a very sweet and affectionate dog with people. He can be a little timid at first, but after just a few minutes, he will be rolling around and giving you his belly for rubs.
Sampson isn't an extremely desirable dog to most people, being an older Pit Bull mix that needs a family without other pets, but this boy has a heart full of love to give and we're hoping we can find him someone because he sure deserves a home! Please consider him if you're able and at least share his story if you're not.

Sampson's adoption fee will be sponsored for anyone approved to adopt him.

Sampson is neutered, current on routine on routine vaccinations, microchipped and has tested negative for heartworm.

**UPDATE- ADOPTED!!**

Please share Boo to help him find his family!
Boo is an approximately 8 year old mixed breed. He weighs 57 lbs.
He came into the shelter on May 29, 2024 (over 1 year now) and hasn't even had any serious inquiries! We've showed him to many families that weren't looking for a particular dog, but for whatever reason, he is always passed over for someone else.
Boo stays in a nice quiet area here. That is the least we can do for him. He is quiet, keeps his kennel spotless overnight and is an absolute good boy. We let him out in the mornings and he will take a little stroll in the field, go potty and have his breakfast. He likes to just be around people. He isn't overly needy for attention, but does like getting scritches when you can.
He can mix and mingle with dogs of all sizes, as well as cats. He does best around docile dogs that are passive and good with other dogs. If challenged, he won't just let it slide, but he is wonderful if they're friendly with him.
Boo has done well with everyone that has met him here at the pound. He will bark if he is in his kennel, but he is very well mannered when he is with anyone and he happily greets new people here with a wagging tail.
Boo has had an ear infection that we've been working hard to treat. It was recently cultured and we just finished up this round of antibiotic ear drops. His ear looks so much better and he seems a lot happier, so we're hoping this does the trick for him!
Boo is such a good boy and we are hoping he finds a loving new family soon!

Boo's adoption fee has been sponsored by the Donahey family for any approved adopter, so the only thing his new family will need to pay for is his dog license!

Boo is neutered, his rabies vaccine is good until 2028, he is current on DHLPP and bordetella vaccines, dewormed, and he is microchipped.
