The Columbiana County Dog Pound is a county-operated agency, but we are not funded through the county’s general fund. Our operations are supported entirely by county dog license fees and donations. Because of this, we operate with a small staff while caring for approximately 55–60 dogs at any given time.

When someone calls to report a complaint, the first information we ask for is the location or address of the dog, if known. This helps us respond more efficiently to the large number of calls we receive. We also ask for the caller’s address. If the complaint involves a dog, we may check to see whether the dog is properly licensed. Please understand that this is not an attempt to cost anyone money—it is simply part of our job and required by Ohio law.

Just as we are expected to have a driver’s license and license plate to operate a vehicle, Ohio law requires dogs to be licensed. The annual dog license fee is $12.00. If purchased after the deadline, the total cost is $24.00, which includes the late fee.

Please don’t take offense if we ask these questions. We are simply doing the job we have been entrusted to do and following the laws we are required to enforce.

One final point: because of our limited staff and workload, we are not able to return every phone call with an update on the outcome of a complaint. We do make every effort to follow up on serious cases whenever possible. However, many investigations take time, and it can take days or even weeks to make contact with the dog owner or receive a return call. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to address each complaint as thoroughly and fairly as possible.

Thank you for your support of the Columbiana County Dog Pound and for helping us keep our community’s dogs safe and protected. 🐾♥️

On behalf of the staff at the Columbiana County Dog Pound, we would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who made a donation in memory of Jason Keyes Sr.

Over the weekend, Jason's wife and sweet little grandson brought out a big load of things to help the pups! Jason’s family plans to continue collecting donations for the Columbiana County Dog Pound in his memory every year. This ongoing tribute will help ensure that Jason’s love for animals continues to make a difference and that his legacy of kindness lives on.

Thank you for your compassion, your generosity, and for helping keep Jason’s memory alive through your donations. Your support means so much to us and to the dogs we care for.

With sincere appreciation,

The Staff (and dogs) of the Columbiana County Dog Pound ❤️❤️❤️

We're looking for placement for Jocko!
Jocko is approximately 5 years old and weighs in at around 90 lbs. He is an absolute big baby. He loves all people. He is an absolute favorite amongst the volunteers that spend extra time giving him attention and doting on him. He has also done well around the other dogs he has met here at the pound.
Jocko has some neurological issues that could stem from a wide range of conditions or injuries and the pound, unfortunately, is unable to send him to specialists to find out an exact diagnosis due to cost constraints. At the very least, he would likely need an MRI, which is just not something the pound is able to pay for. He has had a veterinary work up and we have some possibilities ranging from head trauma, trauma to the neck or spine, birth defects, Degenerative changes, etc. So really no small range of things it could be caused by. Jocko's bloodwork all came back great. No concerns with anything there. The thing with his condition is that it could get better (which we don't anticipate), stay the same, or worsen over time. Without an exact diagnosis, it is hard to be able to tell someone what they're getting. He is one of the happiest dogs known to man and if you asked him, he wouldn't know any different. He is truly one of the sweetest, loviest, cuddliest boys. He just wants love. He doesn't act sick. He isn't painful. He still loves to run and play. He just walks like he had one or two too many at the puppy pub.
We're doing our best to try to find Jocko a special family or an approved rescue group that can take him in and give him the best life. Every share and tag helps. It could be the one that helps Jocko find his new life!

Jocko has been neutered, is current on routine vaccines, has been dewormed and is microchipped. Jocko's adoption fee is $152, which covers all of his medical care he has had at the pound, as well as his dog license.
