Just in: RIP DeKalb Firefighter Juan Gasca. The Associated Fire Fighters of Illinois (AFFI) has released a press release regarding the passing of DeKalb firefighter Juan Gasca who passed away on Monday.

The statement reads in part:

"Brothers and Sisters,

It is with great sadness that I inform you of the death of Brother Juan Gasca of DeKalb Firefighters Local 1236. Brother Gasca passed away unexpectedly on April 6th, 2026. He was 26 years old and is survived by his parents and his fiancé. Brother Gasca was an active member of the Associated Firefighters of Illinois Honor Guard."

Associated Fire Fighters of Illinois (AFFI) is a labor union and professional association representing union firefighters and EMS providers throughout Illinois.

The City Of DeKalb Fire department has asked that the public respect the privacy of the family as they navigate this difficult time.

On Friday, January 30th, 2026, our brother Anthony experienced an unimaginable loss. His wife Amber, at only 28 years old, suffered a medical emergency and tragically passed away.
