Sensory Garden Playground

Sensory Garden Playground Children use play as a tool to learn about the world. Some play environments exclude children with disabilities. Let's create a play area for all kids!

As a cooperative effort of Wheaton Park District, Kiwanis Club of Wheaton, Western DuPage Special Recreation Association, and Forest Preserve District DuPage County, a new garden/playground is being developed at Danada South Park. 15% of our children have some form of disability or learning challenge. Some may be physical limitations that are plain to see, while others are less apparent such as le

arning disabilities. The new playground proposes separate areas that allow children to progress at their own speed and focus on play activities developed to keep them engaged.

Was too busy passing out balloons and having fun to take any other pictures at the first Summer Saturday of the year at Sensory Garden Playground! 🎈Was so grateful to meet all the families who told me how helpful Macaroni KID Wheaton has been in finding their family fun! And excited to share with so many new families! 😊😊😊

Happy May! We are looking forward to our first Summer Saturday on May 16. Our partner Western DuPage Special Recreation Association (WDSRA) is celebrating their 50th anniversary, and we are excited for our garden party-themed event! April is Autism Acceptance Month, a time to move beyond awareness and focus on belonging, inclusion, and meaningful participation in everyday community spaces. Acceptance means recognizing that individuals with autism experience and interact with the world differently—and ensuring spaces, programs, and communities are designed to support.

Our partner Western DuPage Special Recreation Association (WDSRA) has focused on creating inclusive, community based recreation so individuals of all abilities—including those living with autism—can participate and thrive for nearly 50 years, and we celebrate that.

Thank you to all who support the Sensory Garden Playground and inclusive play not just in April, but year-round.
