Congratulations, Officers Williams and Hernandez!

Today, we proudly celebrated Officer Cassius Williams and Officer Miguel Hernandez as they graduated from the Suburban Law Enforcement Academy’s Basic Academy Class 26-02!

After nearly 16 weeks of intensive training, both officers have reached an important milestone in their law enforcement careers. We were proud to be there today to congratulate them and welcome them into the next chapter of their service with the Lisle Police Department.

Lisle Police Department Joins Statewide Labor Day Traffic Safety Effort Focused on Impaired, Distracted and Unsafe Driving

Lisle, IL – Lisle Police Department is proud to be one of over 200 law enforcement agencies across Illinois participating in the statewide “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over,” “Drive High, Get a DUI”, and “Click It or Ticket” campaigns this Labor Day. Starting August 14, 2026, through the early morning hours of September 8, 2026, officers will be out in force, focused on stopping impaired driving, enforcing seat belt laws, and reducing other dangerous driving behaviors.

“Driving under the influence – whether it’s alcohol, cannabis or any other impairing drug – is not just risky, it’s illegal,” said Sergeant William Wise. “We will be patrolling with zero tolerance for impaired driving, because our goal is to protect the people of Lisle.”

Officers will also be enforcing seat belt laws as part of the “Click It or Ticket” initiative. Buckling up is the most effective way to prevent serious injury or death in a crash. Everyone in the vehicle – front seat or back – should be properly buckled, every trip.

In addition to alcohol, officers will be on the lookout for drivers impaired by cannabis and other drugs. Messages like “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” and “Drive High, Get a DUI” are part of a statewide education and enforcement effort aimed at saving lives.

“We want our community to enjoy the holiday weekend safely and responsibly,” said Sergeant Wise. “Plan ahead, use a designated driver, and never get behind the wheel impaired. These decisions save lives.”

This local effort is part of a larger statewide campaign supported by the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), which administers the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” and “Click It or Ticket” campaigns with federal highway safety funds. The initiative is reinforced by IDOT’s “It’s Not a Game” media campaign running across radio, TV, and digital platforms to highlight the deadly consequences of impaired driving.

Operation High 5 was a success! ✋🚓🚒

What better way to start the first day of school than with some smiles, high fives, and a little extra energy at the front door?

Our officers had a great time joining our friends from the Lisle-Woodridge Fire District to welcome Kennedy students back this morning.

Thanks to Naperville District 203 and Kennedy Junior High for letting us be part of the excitement. Have a fantastic school year, everyone!

Severe storms, including possible tornadoes and damaging winds of up to 96 mph, have moved through parts of ComEd's service territory, with our southern service region among the hardest-hit areas.

ComEd crews and contractors are ready to respond and will begin assessing damage and restoring service as soon as conditions are safe. Our crews will work around the clock to safely restore power to all affected customers.

UPDATE (8/11/2026 at 3:45 PM):

The Village has completed its emergency response. All roadways are now open and passable to traffic. Public Works crews will continue to perform non-emergency cleanup over the next several days. Information regarding a special branch collection for residents affected by the storm will be forthcoming soon.

Severe Weather Event Affecting the Lisle Area

The Village is aware of reports of a possible tornado event occurring on the northside of Lisle this morning, Tuesday, August 11, 2026.

The Emergency Operations Center has been activated, and emergency crews are assessing conditions and responding to reports of storm-related impacts throughout the community. Crews are working to clear roadways, address hazards, and restore safe travel as quickly as possible.

Residents are asked to:
• Stay away from downed power lines and damaged areas.
• Use caution when traveling and do not drive around barricades or into areas affected by debris.
• Report emergencies by calling 9-1-1.
• Check on neighbors who may need assistance, if it is safe to do so.
• Report downed trees blocking roadways or public sidewalks or other hazardous roadway conditions to the Public Works Department via email at [email protected].

We appreciate the community's patience as emergency personnel and Village crews assess conditions and respond. Current information is preliminary and additional information will be shared as it becomes available.

•Back to School, Back to Safety: Lisle Police Urge Drivers to Slow Down

Lisle, IL – Backpacks are packed, buses are rolling, and students are heading back to class. As the 2026-2027 school year begins this week, Lisle Police Department is asking motorists to do their part to ensure every child gets to school and back home safely.

The first days of school bring a sudden increase in cars, buses, bicycles, and pedestrians around Lisle schools and throughout surrounding neighborhoods. Drivers should expect congestion, leave a little earlier, put down their phones, and be prepared to stop.

Lisle Police Department has prepared a Back-to-School Checklist for motorists:
• Slow down and obey the 20-mph school-zone speed limit.
• Put the phone down and eliminate distractions.
• Stop for school buses displaying flashing red lights and an extended stop arm.
• Yield to children and other pedestrians in crosswalks.
• Obey crossing guards and give them room to work.
• Watch for bicyclists and children entering the roadway unexpectedly.
• Leave earlier and expect delays around schools during arrival and dismissal.

LPD NEWS RELEASE

FATAL TRAFFIC CRASH - MAPLE AVENUE

The Lisle Police Department is investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash that occurred in the 900 block of Maple Avenue.

At approximately 2:51 a.m., Lisle Police officers responded to the area and located a Ford F-150 that had left the roadway while traveling westbound on Maple Avenue, struck multiple mailboxes, and collided with a tree.

The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, a 33-year-old male, was found unresponsive and trapped inside the vehicle. Lisle-Woodridge Fire District personnel extricated the driver and provided lifesaving measures before transporting him to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.

Investigators from the MERIT Major Crash Reconstruction Team responded to the scene to assist with the investigation. The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation by the Lisle Police Department, the MERIT Major Crash Reconstruction Team, and the DuPage County Coroner’s Office.

No other vehicles or individuals were involved in the crash.

The identity of the deceased is being withheld at this time pending notification of next of kin.

🚧 TRAFFIC UPDATE — YACKLEY AVENUE IS OPEN! 🚧

Good news! Earlier this morning, crews were able to free the semi involved in yesterday’s incident and evaluate the bridge near Yackley Avenue and Middleton Avenue.

Everything has been cleared and Yackley Avenue is now fully open in both directions.

The Blue Envelope Program is a free, voluntary communication tool designed to help create safer, clearer interactions between police officers and individuals who may have autism, sensory needs, memory difficulties, or other communication differences.

Not every difference is defiance. A Blue Envelope simply lets an officer know that communication may need to be handled a little differently.

There is no registration, no proof of diagnosis, and no personal information submitted to the Police Department. Participation is completely voluntary.

Blue Envelopes are now available at the Lisle Police Department, Lisle Library, Lisle Park District, Lisle Township, and Lisle High School.
