For the past 15 years, there has been a plan under development to bring the conning tower ("sail"), diving planes and rudder of the decommissioned nuclear attach submarine USS Phoenix (SSN 702), named after the City of Phoenix, from its current waterborne storage location in Bremerton, WA to Phoenix, and erect the saved components of the submarine in a downtown park, or suitable alternative area as part of a memorial to the USS Phoenix, and to the Cold War in which it played an important role.
