As I was sitting on Historic Old Route 66 running radar today, I clocked these three similar cars traveling southbound at an unbelievable 35 mph in a 45 mph Zone. As you can guess they immediately had my attention traveling at such speeds. To my surprise they stopped and pulled into where I was sitting to snap a photograph of Neuhaus Heating and Cooling because one of the drivers is from Neuhaus, Germany. As we spoke I learned more than one in the group were fellow law enforcement officers. One from Indiana and the other from Germany. It was truly enjoyable to meet this group of travelers who were passing through our City enjoying a trip on the Historic Mother Road. They intend to travel its entire length from Chicago, IL to Santa Monica, CA in these neat little East German classic cars called Trabants or as they called them “Trabi”.
They did take a few photos with their Trabi next to my late model Dodge Durango police cruiser. I hope to see our photos on their page and will share them here when they send them. In the meantime, please follow their adventures on Old Route 66 as they travel our beautiful Country. I borrowed this image from their Facebook post.

The Litchfield Police Department bids you safe travels and encourages you to do your best to achieve the posted speed limits.

The Litchfield Police Department would like to extend its heartfelt gratitude to Retired Illinois State Police Captain Tim Reents as he completes his final day serving the City of Litchfield as the Interim Police Chief today.

Interim Chief Reents took the reins as the head of the Litchfield Police Department on September 22, 2025. He has helped to keep the department on course during the transition of leadership from the time of Chief Ryker’s retirement through the hiring and implementation of Litchfield’s new Chief of Police, Robert Carpenter.

Chief Carpenter started his full-time employment with the City of Litchfield earlier this week on March 9, 2026. Interim Chief Reents has been instrumental in helping to bring Chief Carpenter up to date on all aspects of the position this week and has turned over the reins to him with full confidence in his leadership and previous experience.

Additionally, the Litchfield Police Department would like to thank Mrs. Reents for selflessly sharing her husband with us for the last 6-months. We know it wasn’t an easy sacrifice and we truly appreciate it.

Team Victory Lane would like to extend a sincere appreciation to the local Litchfield Police Department and the Montgomery County Sheriff's Department. On Wednesday evening, our dealership experienced a break-in, resulting in the theft of two vehicles from our lot. Fortunately, both vehicles were recovered within the first hour and a half, with no damage sustained. We are extremely fortunate to have such a responsive and effective law enforcement agency, which enabled the prompt recovery of our stolen vehicles. Thank you again.

Thank you everyone and we hope you had a Merry Christmas! 🎄🎁

The Litchfield Police Department has received several calls of an Unidentified Flying Object traveling through the sky’s over Litchfield. It was reported that it seemed to be circling and landing on different rooftops. Officers responded to investigate and managed to locate the object. Upon closer inspection, Officer Murzynski was able to determine it was the Jolly Old Elf himself in his sleigh being pulled by eight tiny reindeer. So if you spot Santa in the night sky don’t be alarmed. However as a precaution, we strongly recommend the little ones hurry and get all nestled in their beds so he doesn’t miss your house. Merry Christmas to all and to all a very good night!
