Thursday, August 27th was a picture perfect day for the our special storytime at the Wreede Good Apple Orchard. We had so much fun reading, crafting, and sampling the apples.

Thank you to the many families and youth who showed up to make this an extra fun time.

This Saturday!

August has a 5th Saturday, which means a second teen program this month! On Saturday, August 29, come to a Venus fly trap-themed escape room on the lawn. This program will be held from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.

For ages 11-18. Free! No need to sign up. Dress for the weather. If the weather doesn’t cooperate, the program will be held in the library’s meeting room. Snacks will be served.

Join us at the Wreede Good Orchard on Thursday, August 27th 10:30 am for a special storytime.

We will be reading stories and doing an apple craft, as well as tasting some apples.

This event is outdoors, so please bring a blanket or chair to sit on.

The library would like to thank Rise +Roam for their continued support of our summer reading program. Rise + Roam generously donated some family passes so that kids and families can spend a day enjoying their incredible space to play, discover, and get creative.

Such a legacy of literacy for all.

ALA is heartbroken at the passing of country music legend, cultural icon, and champion of literacy Dolly Parton.

Dolly’s award-winning Imagination Library initiative, inspired by her father’s inability to read or write, has put hundreds of millions of free books into the hands of children across America and was considered by her to be one of her greatest achievements.

“We’re giving books to kids who wouldn’t have a chance to get them otherwise,” she told American Libraries in a 2018 interview. “A lot of people think this is just for poor children—it’s for all children. It’s important to get books into the hands of any child that we can.”

ALA was proud to confer Dolly with an honorary lifetime membership, the Association’s highest honor, in 2023 for her lasting impact on librarianship, libraries, and the communities they serve.

Dolly was also part of ALA’s Celebrity READ campaign, in which she holds a copy of 'The Little Engine That Could.'

“I’ve always related to that book because I’m the little engine that did!” she said.
